Looks like there was MORE room made for advertisers and LESS room made for cakers. The large photos that they rolled out a week or two ago are now gone and replaced by fewer "Todays Favorites" and "Recently Posted" pics that are just about the same size as they were before (MAYBE a little bigger, but not by much). Can't stand that the latest forum posts are no longer on the front page. And, quite frankly, the only thing that catches my eye is all of the much larger advertisements!!!
One of the things that I loved the most about this site was that it was very subject specific. If I wanted to look at beautiful cakes, all I had to do was click on the home page. Now my eye is drawn to a bunch of crap I have no interest in viewing. Unless things change back to how they were, I believe I will not be spending my precious "me time" wading through all of this....
Thanks, but NO THANKS!! thumbsdown.gifthumbsdown.gifthumbsdown.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_evil.gificon_evil.gifthumbsdown.gifthumbsdown.gif

2. We are fixing the problem of the right column overlapping the forums, this issue is restricted to certain browser versions.

3. Photo stats will be restored

4. This is not about making more money, there are actually less ad units on the page now than in the old version. The right column will have content as well, so it won't just be a wall of ads on the right. There are several new features that we are going to be rolling out and they would not work under the old layout, this is the reason a complete change was necessary.

5. We completely understand your frustration, there should not have been so many bugs when the change rolled over, unfortunately, because of some issues related to the very old code base of the website, we were forced to go live prior to completion because some things could only be tested on the live site. This is a far from ideal situation and one we did not realize was going to happen until late into the process.

6. many of the issues will be resolved tonight, the rest of it should be resolved by the end of the weekend. Then we will reopen this thread to see what issues people are still experiencing.

Honestly Mods, I understand where Heath and Jackie are coming from. I really do. My issue is that some of the pre-existing bugs are still there, there's a whole slew of new ones, the new format is NOT user friendly and it's just not good. I can hear it now "You'll get used to it... It's for the best... blah blah blah..." But please don't insult our intelligence when we say "we DON'T like the new format" because quite frankly, some of us DON'T.

Until the new content in the right column is released, wouldn't it make sense to continue to use that space for content that actually exists?

It occurred to me that Foxicakes wasn't aware of Jackie's thread asking for feedback or she might have chosen to respond there. I was merely trying to let her know that Jackie & Heath are working on more fixes... So I'm unsure how that is insulting to your intelligence.

Please forgive me for trying to offer what little assistance I can.....

I'll be signing off now.

Jan you're fine!! Don't take that personally -- it wasn't aimed at you. It's the barrage of moderator answers to CC members mainly in other threads -- that are now locked!! You're doing your job and a great job at that (I don't envy the mods job at all!!) So please don't take offense at me -- I bark but I certainly don't bite! icon_biggrin.gif

That's right Jan. I would have responded in the "Give us your opinion" thread. But it was locked. And, I was so frustrated at the time, I just had to vent. Nothing personal,..

Must say I am also truly disappointed in the new site. I too miss seeing new forum posts on the front. The entire thing seems less inviting.

I just use the "newest forum posts" page as my CakeCentral bookmark instead of the home page.

I only discovered cake decorating this year and I am a cc addict. Is there a 'help line' I can call. I sneek peeks whilst at work then race home to see what else has been added. Soozi has been known to fall asleep and wake with ones head stuck to the monitor. I got excited the day before the changeover when larger pics were showing. Umm, sorry, then was disappointed. Not liking the new format entirely. I am getting the hang of navigating around and where things are located. The advertising is better on the side, but, it dominates the page even when not overlapping. Is there a plan for white space on each side (or is it just my screen)? I too really, really, really, really liked seeing recent posts on the front page and liked seeing stats when you hovered over a pic (think that was only happening just before the change in the Latest Uploads Gallery). Cheers

I am open to change and think I will get used to it. After all I got used to it when I first started coming to cake central..I just have my favourite site now and it's like a new adventure all over again. icon_smile.gif

I don't hate the layout but I noticed that a lot of my cake photos are gone. I put them all here for reference and they are gone! Is that for good?

I'm glad most of the "Bugs" have been fixed but I haven't seen Heath address the issue of the tiny print. It really is a strain for some of us to read (even with bifocals).

I am so discouraged and saddened by the new format. It is no longer easy to search the galleries. I dislike the removal of the most recent forum posts on the home page. If the site continues in the new format, it will no longer be "addicting" and I will probably not use it. I hope you will take to heart the many comments you are receiving and reconsider some of the changes.

Did anyone else notice that the "most saved today" file is no longer just photos that have been submitted in the last 24 hours? If your cake is being saved a lot I guess it's great because it doesn't disappear after 24 hours but I liked opening the most saved today file and knowing it was all new photos. Now you have to waded through photos that are days old.

I joined CC in 2006 and participated for about 3 years. I left because some members were really downright mean spirited. Is it so terrible to give an honest opinion? Should those of us who don't like the new layout really leave the site and never come back?

I think in light of the times we are living in with so many people in need one should not give in to pettiness but keep remembering to be kind and put out the best of what we have into the world. That might be a big change for some of us and one I can certainly live with.

I haven't explored the new CC just yet, had only been reading the forums and replying few posts. So far I'm fine with it and quite like it.
I'll probably discover something I might not prefer as I explore more later on, who knows... LOL.

I can't read the tiny print either. It's not just the size, it's the font. And especially on the "search new posts" or whatever it's called page, which I've used as my bookmark for years. There's nothing wrong with my eyes. My monitor is giant...and there's a big white box on either side and a little center section of content filled with itty bitty words that give me a headache.

Maybe I need bifocals icon_rolleyes.gif but maybe I'll just stick to websites I can read, which is every other one I've encountered.

One of the things I like is that if you click above the most saved where it says "View more most saved" you can see a number of photos vs. having to arrow to see the others. I don't think you could do that before, could you?

I know change is good, but it is a shocker to see how drastic it has become. I loved seeing the pics right up on top and haven't gotten the hang of it yet. Hoping for the best. My only real complaint is that the ads are on top of the post making them hard to read.

I was taken back by the new format. I hadn't been on CC for several days and when I logged on the other day I was like WTF. Speaking as an "old fart" I don't like the new layout and I has nothing to do with not liking "change." I don't find the new format to be user friendly. I miss the "latest forum post on the front page" I HATE not being able to search the galleries for pictures, not sure where in the hell that button is. How in the crap are you suppose to know if you have any new pm's, there isn't an alert anymore.

I realize that it is still a work in progress and I'm sure they will get it all ironed out eventually. I don't plan on leaving CC because of the change (I'm sure some will be disappointed). So in then the meantime I probably spend more time doing something else than trolling CC. icon_sad.gif

I am completely open to change, but I don't like the new format. I have very limited time to check out CC and it was convenient to see the latest forum topics on the Home page. I really don't have time to sift thru all the Forum topics, so this probably means I won't visit as often.

This is the only site I have ever been on that strains my eyes. But those ads are really clear. What will happen is that with the font style, people will skim instead of read, logging in less time. Then the message will be clear. The font is my only complaint.

Really find this new look to be non-user friendly. The 'most saved' larger gallery of photos doesn't display all new photos...they're the ones that had been most saved over several days...I'm guessing. Anyway, I've seen a lot of the same pictures.

I hate not having the forum discussions on the home page.
And I miss seeing all the stats.

You know I like change too...when it's change for the better. So far this is not.
