I'm mostly a hobby baker, I occasionaly work friday's for a few hours at a local bakery. I also contribute a picture of a cake to a friend's blog once a week just for fun.

So this Friday is Remembrance day/Veterans day and I made a tank cake for my nephews a while back and thought to honor the verterans I would post this cake (you can see it in my gallery) for this week's post. Is that distasteful? I thought it was perfect and would honor them but I was left a comment that it was a happy, cute cake and was distasteful. I don't want to offend anyone and just wondering if I'm just not seeing it? Just would like some opinions.

Personally I don't find it distasteful, but I could see how someone could take it that way if they interpreted the cake as glorifying war (since a tank is a weapon after all).

I went to your gallery and looked at the tank cake. I think it is wonderful and do not find it in bad taste at all. I have 2 friends in Afghanistan right now and another that is back home but was severely injured in Iraq. Any of them would be honored to get such a wonderful cake as a thank you for their service.

I think your tank cake is beautifully done and I am not offended by it.

I think your tank cake is really nice and I don't think it is offensive in anyway. I know many veterans who would love this cake and really don't know anyone who would be put off by your tank.

My husband is Active Duty Air Force with three deployments under his belt, and he said the cake was not distasteful. That's part of the job.

I don't see anything distasteful. If it had happy birthday written on it, maybe, but it's just a tank (a fabulous one!). I don't see why this person would label it "happy and fun", the tank doesn't have a smiley face on it.

Any VFW Hall would be thrilled to have that cake at one of their meetings. Any soldier that has served in tanks would be thrilled to have that cake as a gift. I think it is appropriate to show that photo to remember our Veterans who have served; especially those who have served in tanks.

I am very surprised that you received this comment: "that it was a happy, cute cake and was distasteful." My sister and I both worked at a huge Veterans Administration Medical Center for decades. I literally cannot think of a single person (Veteran or employee) who would be offended if that tank was brought into the Medical Center to celebrate Veterans Day.

I respect and admire ALL our Veterans and am proud to salute them on Veterans Day. To all of you who have family on Active Duty~~THANK YOU to both the family AND the person serving on active duty.

i checked out your cake and don't personally find it distasteful. i think any good showing of support and thanks to our troops, is in taste. now, if i were to ask my very good friend who has over 25 years in the army, who has run stryker commands and LOVES cake? he'd probably prefer it to be a stryker but he's happy with any good tasting cake (he'd probably also make a joke about how hot they get inside and yeah, it'd probably go downhill from there lol) but any amount of thanks and appreciation we have, is appreciated. i could ask him directly, if you want. he's VERY open about his opinions (boy, is that an understatement lol).

No, not at all distasteful. It's a very nice cake.

I'm probably way older than you, so I'll share what I've learned. The more you work with the public, the more you realize that someone will always complain about something. Just go with what you think is right and don't let other people's negativity get to you.

Being a mother of 2 sons in the service, one in the Army who has already done a tour in Afghanistan and my other in the Marines currently over there, I do not take offense to your cake and I don't believe that my boys would either. You did a great job, and you have to remember we will never make everyone happy.
