Is Anyone Buying The New Cookbook From Georgetown Cupcake?

Admittedly I ordered the cookbook the other day. I am very curious to see and maybe try some of their recipes. I do use their chocolate cupcake recipe which is good, although I'm sure there are better ones out there!

I do really like their buttercream and vanilla cream cheese frostings. Those are my main go-to frostings.

I've always wanted to try their cupcakes, but I live a plane ride away (or a VERY long car ride), and I haven't wanted to fork over that much money to have them shipped. Has anyone else tried them?

BTW, they were on the Today Show, and their pumpkin spice and caramel apple recipes are online.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/45166360/ns/today-food/t/bake-delicious-pumpkin-spice-caramel-apple-cupcakes/?fb_ref=.TrgKk9FQ3Yg.like&fb_source=home_multiline#.Trik7nE0s_t

I want to try their pumpkin recipe, but I love my caramel apple recipe so I'm not sure if I'll try theirs.

No, I would not buy their book because they act unbelievably stupid on their TV show.

Hi, I am sure one of us will get it as a Christmas gift this year. icon_biggrin.gif I would like to know if anyone bakes from this book or Buddy Valastro's Books. Also Entemann's just came out with a baking book.

I saw them on QVC the other day selling their Book and wasn't really impressed. I am on the fence with it beacause I do agree with Leah and don't really like the show. However, I did order Buddy Valastro's new book and it is on it's way to me know (ordered from QVC). I did hear that his last one people were not really impressed with it. I use to like to watch his show but I think it has gotten a bit obnoxious.

I thought it was just me. Glad to see that's not the case. I'm starting to feel the same way about the Cake Boss too. Too much drama and not enough cake.

KathieB, Let me know how Buddy's new book is. I have his first book and I only made the chocolate cupcakes from it and wasn't impressed. My sister wants the second one. Thanks.

I will let you know. I should be getting it Monday or Tuesday. I heard the first book was more like a biography with some recipes and it wasn't that good so I was hesitant to buy this one. I will let you know. icon_biggrin.gif

Hey, they may act "unbelievably stupid" but they must be doing something right. icon_smile.gif

Ironically, by acting unbelievably stupid they are doing something right. If a reality show generates controversy and buzz (usually due to manufactured conflict by the producers, the cast, or both) it has a better chance of staying on the air.

Less drama and more cake = a cancelled show.

The cupcakes themselves get mixed reviews:

I have Buddy's first book and if you own a business, it has some good information. Likewise, I have ordered GT Cupcakes book because that silliness is obviously an act. I'll read any book by someone with lines around the block. I have put into practice a few tips in Buddy's book, one in particular, and it has saved me many times over the cost of the book.

I plan on getting Buddy's new book too, but this month has had quite a few great baking books published. I have been ordering two or three a week, so he's just on the list.

I'm right near DC so I will check it out next time I'm there. I hate cupcakes though LOL.

Hi, sccp1127, what other books have you ordered recently? I just ordered and received the Planet Cake Book and Lindy Smith's Cake Decorating Bible. They both look really good.

P.S. The DC cupcake sisters were on the TV show The Chew yesterday. Actually they seemed really mature on there compared to how they act on the DC cupcake show. I wonder how the book is and if anyone buys and bakes from it please keep us posted.

My darling husband brought me a dozen assorted cupcakes from there when he was in DC last year. Unfortunately, now, I can't remember exactly which flavors I had. I do recall, though, that only about 1/3 of them were good, IMHO, and one was actually so yucky that I spit it out into the trashcan. The Key Lime was outstanding, though. I could've eat a dozen of those.

I, too, agree that the show is ridiculous. I only watched it a few times, but that was enough. Their dog jumping into the back of the van with one of their deliveries totally grossed me out, and I thought if they said "Mommy" one more time, I'd tear my hair out! icon_lol.gif

The show definitely irritates me, but they do have a massive clientele. So they must be doing something right. I'm not completely sure why, though, because I've had about a dozen of their cupcake flavors, and although they sound delicious, they were not - at least not to my taste.

So I received the Cupcake cookbook (Dh ordered and didn't know), I was looking though it last night and it is a lot of biography. It seems to be the same as Buddy Valastro last cookbook, a lot of history and few recipes. However, I am going to try a few of the recipes this weekend and I will let you know what I think. I have ordered Buddy's new book but haven't received it yet.

kathy 107, here is a list of the new ones:

Tea With Bea, love it
Extraordinary Cakes, love it
Truffles, not here yet
Butch Baking, great ideas, but they use an odd measurement meant for novice bakers, so the recipes will have to be converted. They use a dry measuring cup for both wet and dry measuring. Besides that, it looks good.
Paris Sweets (this is an old one)
Mini Pies, excellent, I'm selling these
Cutie Pies, excellent, I'm selling these
Home Baking for Profit: By Mimi Fix, a CC member, this one will make you money
Gordon Ramsey Desserts (older), great reference book
Planet Cake (finally got it, still on order)
Cupcake Diaries, I read these for the biography. If I want a cookbook, I go to top chefs. But these girls are doing something right and it may be all marketing, genius.
Buddy's new book, on order
Junior's Desserts, on order... their last book was excellent and a perfect reference for cheesecakes
The new cake pops book. It's already filed away because I can't use it. But it is a great book for those who use box mixes. The flavors and the photography are intriguing, but I only bake from scratch.

Hi scp1127 thanks for posting the list of new books. I am going to look into these books over the weekend. My mother ordered me the new Juniors book from QVC for Christmas so I am looking forward to that one. I only bake from scratch also. If you can recommend any really good recipes I would appreciate it. icon_biggrin.gif

Kathy107, here's another of my weird habits with cookbooks... I wait until they have been out for awhile and then I go to Amazon and read the comments. Everyone will post the good and not so good recipes. I put them in two columns in the front of the book for future reference. In almost every case, a few recipes in each book will be mentioned over and over.

My Junior's book isn't here either, but that first one will make anyone a cheesecake pro. Since reading that book, I have never had another crack and I can offer them in my bakery flawless.

I have tried their cupcakes at their shop and they really are nothing out of the ordinary to warrant buying their cookbook. I can't see what I personally would learn from this cookbook.

I have no intention of trying the recipes. I'm just reading for the biographical information, and if you read closely, many of these books have valuable information. This is true of most all of the books by famous bakery owners.

I made their GF lava fudge cupcakes last night. Very good and my GF co-workers LOVED them. They could not believe they were GF. In fact all three ladies ate 2 of them today! icon_smile.gif

Tonight I'm making their Irish Creme cupcake for my girls' weekend. I've made one before which was good, but it was time consuming. It also called for Guinness, Baileys, and Irish Whiskey. Too much money to buy all those drinks for something I don't make too often. Their Irish Creme is just Baileys (or a non-alcoholic coffee creamer).

There are 42 recipes in their cookbook. That's a lot, I think. If I owned a bakery, I wouldn't be so willing to publish my recipes!

That Guiness, Bailey's, and Jameson cupcake (my recipe) is one of my best loved combinations at my shop. Since the Jameson only goes in the ganache, a mini will do. And if you use the Guiness for gingerbread too, it won't go to waste. Plus all of it will keep forever. I thought only men would like them, but they are a real hit.

I made one of the cupcakes from DC Cupcakes book, Pumpkin spice Cupcakes, and I have to say, it is good, nothing out of the ordinary. I have a better Pumpkin Spice Recipe, this cupcake was very dense and heavy. I will try a few more this week, my next one is the Apple Caramel. Will let you know.

Kathie-I really want to know how the Caramel Apple turns out. I took a different recipe and changed it to make Caramel Apple and I love my recipe!

I need to look and see what I'm going to make next. I want to try their wedding cupcakes recipe.

I posted last night on the other thread about this book that, at first glance, the recipes look really good with clear instructions. This would be a great book for people who want to try scratch baking. I like that they stress great ingredients. Their combinations look good and not so copycat like many recipe books.
