Friday Night Cake Club...where'd It Go????
Decorating By kathie-d Updated 8 Oct 2011 , 8:18pm by leah_s
Did I miss it tonight , is it running really late....or is it gone???? and Leah..miss you!
I was thinking the same thing...up late fighting with fondant. Got really hot here in MN today and its still 80 degrees outside, just cooling down...GRRRRRRRR!! I'll be up really late and was looking forward to cake club! So what you up to Kathie?
I looked for it at 11 E.S.T. and couldn't find it either.
So what are y'all working on?
I've got nothing this week so I made the brownies I've been craving all week. Now I need to stay away from the rest of the pan. lol
JSKConfections: do you have ac or a dehumidifier?
Hi guys. Catlharper was supposed to take over the FNCC and call it to order every Friday night. Not sure what happened.
I had an event with the Dessert Truck tonight, cam home and had to finish a wedding cake. I'll be glad when this double duty is over.
Good Evening all, I haven't seen FNCC in so... many weeks or months, lol. For the first time in a long time I can sit down and read all the post.
No work this weekend, Yeah!!!
But... can't stand it, my sister will be visiting tomorrow so gonna make a Choco-Flan, for her and my niece.
Well all I have is a two tier Vegas themed wedding cake. The couple got married there last December and the Groom's Mom is throwing a post party bash. I think the couple live out of town are are visiting the mom for our Thanksgiving long weekend.
Hey Cheatize, thanks for asking...no dehumidifier, we took ac units out a few weeks ago when it was in the 50's for daytime highs here! lol...well Mother Nature had one more trick up her sleeve it seems, its been upper 80's for a week now. I'm also using Fondarific for the first time and its really soft. Just read online to put in the frig for ten minutes, so I'm trying that. Got one covered, not thrilled with it, but I hope the next one covers better, I've tore the fondant off 3 times already. I may have to order Fondx again, never had this trouble with that. Glad to see more folks were missing this tonight! Oh I'm making a baby shower cake for my Step daughters sister...ten am pick up tomorrow...I hope the rest goes fast once the cake is covered and stacked.
I've been thinking for a couple of weeks that it's time to take out the window ac but I was afraid it would be too soon. Sure enough, it's warm again. Not in the 80's, but it will be mid-70's next week. Hubby is having elbow surgery the 21st so they will have to come out soon whether it's time or not. I feel for ya', it really stinks having to work around the weather.
Yeah, Fondarific is really soft. After it sits for a bit it does start to crust a bit on the outside but the moment you try to pick it up, it goes all stretchy again.
So, do we get to post on this for the club??? Cuz I popped on here looking for it so I could share that I took an emergency order yesterday for a 2 tiered topsy turvey with a golf theme. I've never made a topsy turvey. I priced it thru the roof, and to my surprise they paid.
Gotta say, it was way easier then I though it was going to be, and I can't believe I finished it already. I had some issues with the fondant because it was super humid today, but for the most part I am so proud of this cake!
Cheatize, Good luck to your hubby...and its so hard to predict weather this time of year...we can be really cold already in MN, or warm back up like it has...just got my last tier covered. The frig thing helped some and I rolled it just a tad thicker. Letting them sit to air dry a bit before I continue.
Hey From Scratch...glad you got top dollar for that cake. I have not ever done a topsy turvy yet. They look like fun...I'll watch for you pic! You will post it? I hear ya on the fondant issues, having some of my own..
Yay, FromScratchSF! My first one was really bad. lol
Next week I'm creating a RKT sculpture. It will be a bobcat using the Wilton stand up bear pan, a pumpkin using the sports ball pan, and a band kid using the the old Wilton stand up tree pan and a ball of RKT for the head. These three things will stacked one on top the other with a PVC pipe running through the center. It just occurred to me that they will need more support than that- as in, straws or dowels. Am I correct and I'm going to have to figure out where to fit these in?
It's 2:25 AM here in Florida and I have been at it for what seems like days. I have 4, 2layer sheet cakes, a 2 layer quarter sheet and 14 dozen sugar cookies. Had to ice the cookies and air brush a cross on them. I really could have prepped everything a little better so things would go quicker and I could kick myself for not having done all of it. I got my second wind as I took a shower and now am eating a Red Velvet cupcake. Have a good night all

I've never tackled a big sculpture one like that with a pvc pipe running through it...If its all RKT won't just the pipe work? Gosh, good luck with that one!
auntginn, FNCC has been here every Friday without fail until I gave it up 2 weeks ago.
I've closed (or am in the process of closing) my wedding cake biz because I've opened a food truck.
If catlharper can't be here to call us to order every Friday, what say the first one in on the Cake Decorating Forum after 10:30 pm EST does the honors. My traditional opening call was always "Who's up? Whatcha workin' on?"
I'm up for that, Leah. I would have offered to take it over, but I don't feel experienced enough in the cake world. I also know most Friday's I can at least start the thread. What does everyone else think? Are we agreed? First here starts the thread?
Leah- what the traditional subject line?
I've closed (or am in the process of closing) my wedding cake biz because I've opened a food truck.
WHOA! Can you share any of the details with us? I remember you commenting a while back that they were getting popular in your area, but I didn't think you'd actually do it. How's it going? Inquiring minds want to know...
Wow! You learn something everyday! I did not know that there was a cake club on here. Of course, after 5:30, my computer gets taken over by everyone else in the house. I guess I'll have to buy another one. I'm missing too much at night!
cheatize, The traditional heading for the thread is the date and the words Friday Night Cake Club. Like this: 10.14.11 Friday Night Cake Club
The www.LouisvilleDessertTruck.com is doing well. We launched on 9.11.11, so it hasn't been quite a month yet. It's *very* different from the wedding cake biz. It's more like a storefront in that I bake inventory ahead of time and hope to sell it. I've already switched to recipes that have a long shelf like.
We're not making much $ yet, and we're only out 2 times a week right now, but we're having fun, and the stress level is near zero. And the truck is paid for.
I'm so happy for you Leah!! If I'm ever up in Louisville I won't miss it!! Good luck, I'm rooting for you!!
Leah, congratulations and good luck on your new ventures. Hope you'll stay close enough to us though to give us your experty advise when we get stuck on something.
Yes, I knew about the FNCC, since way back, but was not available most Friday nights and the few I was I was generally too busy to be on the computer.
I had a break last night, so while doing much of nothing I enjoyed a catch up on CC.
I am typically up and on the net every Friday and as of late an addict to the forum. So I would be happy to call it to order every Friday night (if it has not already been started). I might not be able to give answers and what not like Leah did but thier are plenty of us on here and I am sure someone can help thoses that need it.
