Recently I made my first gum paste hibiscus flowers and filler leaves/stephanotis for 4 large cakes. Got me to thinkin', what do people do with the fabulous gum paste creations after the cake goes into the venue's kitchen for the cake to be taken apart, cut, and served?

Are those fabulous, expensive, time consuming works of art thrown away? Are they given to the bride? Are they made into small arrangements or put in vases? What does the venue/caterer do with them?

Yes I always wonder too. Hopefully the bride gets them or does she. Just my evil mind working. Sometimes the brides are from overseas and they don't or can't take them back with them. I have never asked as I think they might think I am checking up on them.

its my unserstanding that if the bride doesnt ask for them they are thrown out, painful to think about, but that is why we charge so much for them, they are gorgeous and hard work, just be tossed.

On my first wedding cake, I was a guest at the wedding too. The cake got served wrapped in napkins on platters so that guests could take a slice if they wanted. I made 2 large gumpaste roses, they got placed on the platters as decoration. I went to grab a slice and one of the guys from my work was chomping down on the flower... so they sometimes get eaten lol!!
