My last three cakes have been bubbling within hours after I cover with fondant! I'm using Satin Ice. I crumb coat and second crumb coat. I spritz with small amount of water so fondant sticks. I smooth from top down. What am I doing wrong??? Why is this happening? I hasn't happened before and all of a sudden every cake I do is having this happen icon_sad.gif HELP!

I have had several cakes do this lately also? I think it is the humidity. ?? Maybe a small section isn't adhered to cake and air gets under it? , and due to weather it "bubbles" which causes the crack? I also have NEVER had this problem. I have only been doing fondant cakes for about 8-9 months. So this is my first time dealing with summer months and fondant. Anyway, I am just guessing this is what is happening. I use both Wilton and Satin Ice. It seems to me that if the fondant is nice and soft/fresh...it is more likely to happen on the cake. Or that has been my experience with it.
Just so you know, I am not inexperienced with fondant. I really believe it is a weather issue. I did 3 cakes this weekend, our humidity was down..but not non-existent. I had one of the tiers bubble and tear. ? The other 3 cakes were fine. (2 single tier cakes and 1 double tiered cake)

yeah this has been exactly my experience as well. And now that I think about it, it's only happened when I've used Satin Ice - White. And my husband and I have both been saying that the white in particular feels extremely soft/pliable. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Should I maybe be adding more powdered sugar to it to help it not be so soft? I think I'm going to have to take the fondant off of one of my cakes and completely redo it icon_sad.gif

AMine just did the same. Looked great yesterday and today it bubbled and got a huge crack in the top tier. It has never happened to me before but this is my first summer making these cakes so Im wondering if its the humidity/heat as well. I live in texas. Anyone reccomend a fondant that wont do that in texas? I use an mmf.
