HI I will be making a golf ball cake I plan on using the wilton mold but for those who have done this... how do I get the ball texture effect?

Cover it is fondant which is what you will have to do to get the pock marks on it...Use a small dimpled pencil or anything rounded and just start making the dimples..You won't get the same effect if you cover it in buttercream as you usually have to star tip it and it won't show the dimples correctly.

When I did this one, http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1408081 I just covered it in BC, then took a rounded cap from a pen (washed it first, of course) and added the dimples with that.

about the dimples, how do you make them to look like the ball if I just start poking it wont it look like a mess?

I just tried to keep them evenly spaced and did one row around the ball at a time until I reached the bottom. HTH
