I carry my iPad with me everywhere I go and I would like to start designing my cakes on it. I've found all kinds of stylus' and they all have reviews for sketching and such but I was curious if anyone used a tablet for this purpose. It would make it so much easier to upload a cake design and not to mention I wouldn't have to carry random colored pens in my favorite Coach purse. If you do this, which stylus do you use and which app have you found to be the most user friendly. Thanks for the info!!

hi,
I would recommend the pogo stylus...best tip that I have found. Mmmm, what sort of apps are you looking for? Brushes could be a good app....
Drawing pad would be another good one.

Search appolicious for ideas for drawing apps.

Have you though bought using your iPad to showcase your designs as well from the photos gallery.

I use the iPad to design my cakes all the time. Adobe Ideas is a suitable app and it's free too!

I have a cake gallery set up on the iPad as well as an idea gallery of random google image searches I thought were awesome. I have all my recipes on here as well as the calendar and a grocery lists app that are synced to my phone.. I just wanna ditch the sketchpads and pens from my purse and figured the I have this awesome piece of technology (that hubby won for me from a radio station lol) I might as well use it to it's full potential. I was really surprised there wasn't an app on either the apple or the android market for cake decorating. I figured there'd be like a tip reference or something but I guess it just hasn't crossed into this world yet.

I have been considering purchasing an ipad for cakes. I figured it's easier to carry around. I also like the fact that the photo would be bigger to show clients.

Is it worth the investment?

Just purchased mine three weeks ago. Love it. Already have Kindle & GPS apps so that is two less devices that I need. Took it with me to ICES this week and was great for doing online search at end of demos. Can't wait to use it for cake ideas that you gals have just given me.

I was saving up for a Cricut which I decided to forego for an airbrush machine. Now I am going to ditch that idea to get an Ipad instead.

Forgo the cake specific airbruck kids and just go to a hardware store and get a run of the mill airbrush and air compressor,,,

I confiscated hubby's air compressor and just bought a airbrush gun for $20 at a local discount hardware store and it works great... Beats the reviews I've seen aBout some of the cake ones and it was cheap... And then you can still save up for an iPad lol

Which btw is AMAZING!!! I love my iPad... I use it to watch tv thru netflix and hbo go when I'm cleaning in the kitchen.... I keep it in my purse whenever I have to take the kids somewhere and pull it out when I need them to be calm. I've been using it to teach my son how to write and read.... I use to think oh when am I ever gonna use this thing but once I started searching around the app market and realized it's potential I can honestly say I can not live without it.

For my cake stuff, I keep all my cake pics and pics of cakes I like on it to show what I can do and to give clients ideas... They responded better to it than me pulling out my phone to showcase pics lol... And once I get my stylus I'm going to use it to design the cakes for clients and to document any ideas I have. I have all my recipes on it, and grocery lists for the recipes.

I will say from experience, the speck cases are amazing and a screen protector from zagg is a must.

The ipad is one of the greatest things ever! Did you know you can take credit card payments with it? I used it on a cake payment this weekend for the first time and everyone though it was so cool when I swiped the card on my ipad using the credit card reader adaptor! (You can also use the adaptor on the go with your iphone) icon_biggrin.gif

Here's a great list. There's plenty out there, and there will be more to come for sure. I love macs, have worked with them since the 80s, so to me...all Apple-related stuff is a necessity. lol.

So the reader is free but is there a fee involved? Like a monthly fee or a percentage they take from your transaction? Prob silly questions but I've dealt with paypal when I had my eBay business and uh yeah.... Fees add up. I was paying paypal per transaction as well as a % of my transaction lol... It added up fast!

Hi esagston,

It's "Transparent Pricing" they only charge 2.75% per swipe for all credit cards.
No monthly fees or contracts. I have read that other CC members have started using it and they love it as well. Here is a mini review post that was posted yesterday here on CC http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-726665.html icon_biggrin.gif

Anything from Adobe is great. They are after all the owners of the leading graphics software. I never thought that they would give something for free, though, and since their software package for design is about two thousand dollars, I even expected their app would be more than $6.

Maybe they have a trial version? They have trial versions for all the rest of their programs.

If I had to choose between an iPad or a good air brush... I'd take the air brush. You'll get more out of it as far as cake is concerned.

The iPad is great, and if you have the disposable income they are fun. Really though it's just a giant iTouch. Sure it can do a few more thigns and is bigger, but I'd keep your cake bucks and put it towards things you can use to make cakes. I use my Laptop for cake stuff. It works great and required no new purchase. Get yourself the stylus for your computer... it will be far more useful.

as far as the airbrush goes, I believe you need to buy one that is specifically for cake decorating ie food safe, and not one from a hardware store......atleast this is what I have read in here, and it makes sense

I LOVE my iPad - and my favorite thing about it is that I can keep all my recipes on there and just prop it up in a little corner in the kitchen.

I never thought about sketching cakes on there, but now I'm going to have to invest in a stylus and try it out!!
