How Can I Get Real Black Buttercream Icing??

As well as red I cannot for the life of me get black icing!! Please help. One time I used almost my entire black color and still I only got gray. What am I doing wrong?

Use Americolor red and black. Works great!

Try adding some cocoa powder or black candy melts. The darker the better on the cocoa powder.

Like Renee mentioned - I make my black by first making my chocolate buttercream. I also use americolor black coloring and you use way less and I've always gotten a true black. It also helps if you can let the color sit for a bit as it does darken. HTH!
