I made a 2 tiered baby shower cake. Came out really cute, made baby blocks spelling the babies name. It had pink and green butterflies and really cute flowers. Took me all day to finish the dumb thing only to trip over the dogs and drop the cake. No photo and no cake to show for the hard work this took me.

But I realized something, after cleaning up the mess. I'd rather bake turnovers, cookies and cupcakes and baked goods. I am so done with decorating that i am so ready to sell all my wilton stuff I just need to vent, cause i used all natural and organic ingredients cause thats how I bake only to go to walmart and buy one of their nasty chemical laced cakes. Need to since it's 10pm and the baby shower is for tomorrow and it's for a friend. I told her what happened and she said just pick up a cake from walmart.

Just so darn disappointed , maybe if i had a pic it would help at least i could show off the pic.

That really stinks. Don't give up yet, it was just one cake disaster. It's easy to question yourself when this stuff happens. I have gone through the same thoughts on multiple occasions.

I also like making all the other goodies too. I like the variety and sometimes lack of decoration. You can market yourself as a multi-talented baker for those who like brownies, pies, simple cookies, etc.

Keep up the good work and try to enjoy what you do.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would have just sat and cried for an hour before I could do anything else.

Don't sell your decorating supplies just yet. Put them away for now. In a few weeks or months you may feel differently.

second....YOU ARE a decorator. i peeked at your cakes and you do great work.
i wouldnt give up on your cakes. you had an unfortunate 'accident' not caused by you not being a decorator.
thankfully your friend is very understanding.
i know the frustration you are feeling, and the worse is buying some pre-package, pre-frozen, generic decorated cake when you spend so much time, energy and money into your product.
put this behind you and take a deep breath.
your next cake will be a success!

Christina, there is a great market out there for more than just cake. I do it all and celebration cakes are only about 20% of my business. Do what you want to do.

Dogs???

My HD gave me the option of using my bakery entrance or the home entrance to take out my BOXED baked goods. The bakery entrance is up a hill and my home entrance has a wrap-around-drive that come right up the front door. I always put my dogs out before I bring anything up, but it is not a requirement. And, yes, I have four dogs. I'm usually the first one to pick up on these things too, but in my case, it's perfectly legal. I'm a dog lover more than a cake lover.

I was having a house full of guests, made a really special dessert(wasn't into decorating at the time). But I spent a lot of time on this dessert plated it on a depression glass cake plate and was putting it in the fridge when it slipped off the plate onto the floor. The worse part was I'm not none for a long fuse. Got so mad I flung the depression glass across the room. Many lessons learned on that one, including never throw things. Don't give up.

Don't throw things unless you have a maid.

I almost quit last week after a mishap like that. But I figured I had to get back up on that horse and try again. Don't quit. You're next cake will rock and you will be even more proud of yourself for your success. Hang in there, it'll get better!!

One time I got an order for a topsy turvy cake. I had never done one before, so I spent days researching and finally started on it. I spent a total of 18 hours making the cake itself plus all the fondant pieces that went on it!!! As a beginner I didn't realize that it wasn't a good idea to deliver a cake like that 40 miles away and already stacked!!! Needless to say by the time we arrived at the party the bottom tier of the cake had completely collapsed all over me and the back of my car! I had icing up to my elbows and even in between my toes! Lol!!!!!! I can laugh now but it wasn't funny then! Don't give up! Just hang in there!

If you really genuinely don't get enjoyment out of decorating cakes, then I'd say stop and just do what you enjoy, but if this is just a bad experience making you THINK you don't like it, then please don't give up- take a break and relax before the next project. I've looked at your photos and you're too good to say "I'm not a decorator!!"

I just did my daughters cake which took me ALL day to decorate (not including baking time) and at the end of it I thought "Am I cut out for this?". But, i'm going to have a cake break and then get back onto it

I second kristiemarie! It's meant to be enjoyable. I do stress from time to time but I enjoy it more than dislike it I hope it's the same for you.

It happens with me a lot. I am too clumsy to be near the cake. Once I have made the cake. I stay away from the cake. I take assistance from my sister or my friends to give it to others. Its like working on a project on a computer and losing it without saving the project. Its just harder than sitting on a computer.

I don't throw things any more, and it was more of a drop on the floor than a real throw. But Depression Glass, what a dummy. I do enjoy the decorating. I just want perfection from day one but I am persistant.
