Friend asked me to do cookies for sister's baby shower...onsies decorated for twin boys.
I have made NFSC before for classes I teach but not for "orders". And usually just teach decorating with buttercream so we don't waste so much cake.

Did the onesies with Toba's glace...AMAZING results....and a lot less stress and mess than with most cakes!

I really, really understand now why people do a lot of cookies instead of cakes. I could totally get into cookies and forget about cakes and a lot of the time/worry they cause me!!

Cookie ingredients are a lot cheaper than cake ingredients too...at least the way I make them.

It was much cheaper!

And....when I used to make them I never bothered to use any method to make sure they were all the same thicknes...this time I rolled out with 1/4 inch dowels under rolling pin.

And....found out how many cool cutters a local store has, including the large Onesie cutter I needed!

I could totally forget about cakes for a while.

Toba's glace is powdered sugar, milk, and corn syrup.

I used Gemini's adaptation with the ratios of 3 cups p/s, 3 T milk, 3 T corn syrup (I used vanilla flavored). I used a peanut butter like consistency to outline and then a glue like consistency to flood------and even THAT convinced me since I didn't have to obsessively de-grease like I thought I would always have to with royal icing.

Cookies are a WIN:WIN in my book!

3GCakes: Does that recipe you posted of Gemini's adaptation harden just like royal icing? How long does it take to dry before you can package the cookies? Thanks!

It doesn't harden as hard, but it's tastier and I made them this morning/afternoon and will package tomorrow.

It gets a lot harder than I'd have expected! I have touched drops of it that went astray and it's pretty set up.

I know! I felt the same way for a long time....wasn't even impressed by NFSC but never really gave it the old college try. Now I'm hooked, especially with Toba's glace.

I just hate how much time it takes to do them..I can ice a small cake in 10 minutes flat and have it decorated in 30 minutes and charge $100.00...Cookies take me hours to do and I never seem to get the money out of them that I should...LOL

Last time I used Toba's Glace, I used almond extract in it. It was delicious! I got rave reviews. thumbs_up.gif

Wow I have some onesie cookies going out this weekend.

I luuuuuuvvv doing cookies! It is so peaceful and stress free. I have no problem with sitting and working on one cookie for an hour (well only if it's under a dozen needed). lol. I'd take a cookie order for a wedding over the wedding cake any day.

I remember you told me Kiddiecakes I should charge more for mine. You made my day that day!

I will definitely have to start designing more cookies. I copied these off of one I saw on here and they don't look quite as good, but they are pretty good.

I think I'd rather spend an hour on a cookie than some of the fiddly fondant details of a cake!

Kiddiekakes, I know what you mean about the 100.00 small cake. My ideal cake anymore is one with American Buttercream and 10 inch round. Dots or a few flowers....rosettes on top even! I am getting burned out on making cakes in general. Don't even want to make my white choco IMBC anymore. It seems like I turn the whole house upside making cakes anymore.

But these cookies.....they were so mess-free, I was able to keep them to a confined area and clean up was a breeze. I'm so smitten!

I'm glad you found your niche...LOL..If customers were more willing to pay the price for the cookies I have done in the past..I would do more of them..but just not cost effective to make a good return and they won't pay $5.00 a cookie...icon_sad.gif Have you seen Dreme website..Now that is a cookie!! WOW....

Money wise, cakes are a way-y-y better deal than cookies! Or maybe it's just because I tend to gravitate towards intricate cookie designs. And the fact that few people I've dealt with want to pay more than $1 a cookie. But I still view cake decorating as a chore, because it takes me away from decorating cookies!
