How many people have two stand mixers? - Page 2

I have the 5qt. and 6qt. mixers and use them both. I make icing in one and mix cakes in the other. Use the big one for MMF. I am thinking about getting another one.

I have 3, Pro 6, Pro 5, Classic

Pro 6 is my main one and I have 4 bowls, 3 whips, 3 paddles. Pro 5 is my 2nd in command for smaller batches or lighter jobs. Classic is for royal icing only.
I would like another mixer, 10qrt or so.

EBay is always the first place I look for anything! I just bought a 3-tiered silver champagne fountain for $285 (includes shipping). These things are $700 fountains! 6 weddings and my fountain has paid for itself (when I figure what I WOULD have spent on rental costs).

EBay..... be there or be square! icon_wink.gif

Me too, unfortunately, ebay never has parts for this mixer... I got this mixer on ebay (said in another post) for $250 plus $30 shipping when normally these are $540 NEW (and I swear this was NEVER used as they claimed)...

So, getting parts for this on ebay is pretty hopeless.

I now have a mixer for frosting and one for cake and cookie dough. Looking forward to getting extra bowls, attachments and a 3rd mixer. Hobart mixer my dream!!! My 4 qt KA isn't happy about mixing dough so I may do what glory2god did. (sorry I don't know how to add quotes on this yet LOL).[/quote]

I have a nice GE stand mixer in my upstairs kitchen that I use all the time...its not a KA but works really good, almost as good as a KA. then in my downstairs cake kitchen I have a brand new shiny red KA mixer. I also have a HUGE hobbart mixer...the commercial kind. I bought it used off ebay. this sucker weighs a ton and is almost as tall as I am. It is good for really big batches of buttercream icing.

I am thinking about a second bowl for my ka after reading this thread.

off to ebay I go. when I say that word (ebay) my dh gets nervous. :}

It does sound great to have two but at those prices, I just bought an extra bowl and flat beater off of an ebay store that carries everything new there for KA's!

I have four KA's...my original little blue 4.5 qt, a white special edition 5 qt, a cinnamon Pro 6, and a cayenne red 5 qt. I just can't help myself when I see Amazon put one on sale for a great price. *embarrassed*

My husband has grounded me from buying kitchen stuff for awhile but he's a total foodie and loves everything we have. icon_biggrin.gif

I have had two in my kitchen at times. Since I teach the Wilton Classes and have to make icing once a month at the store, I carry the stand mixer so I have my hands free while showing everything. I have the big 6 quart which I love at home, but hate carrying it since it is so big. Plus I don't think it mixes small batches of things super well. So for the classes I borrow my mom's 4.5q and carry that to class. After class it will end up at my house next to the big one sometimes for a few months.

There are times when they are nice, and there are times when it jsut takes up cabinet space. If I had extra money I would probalby buy a 4.5q or 5q of my own and keep the 6q was well. That way my mom could have her mixer back (not that she uses it super often.)

If you don't have the money for buying another mixer or just aren't sure you want to spend that much, how about looking into a second bowl/beater for your mixer? I don't know about the brand you have but KA does sell extra bowls and beaters. That will allow you to do both things with out having to wash in between.

I also have a hand mixer (KA) that I love as well. I use it for mixing my cake batters, so I don't have to wash the stand mixer bowl to make icing. icon_smile.gif

I have a 20 quart mixer for super large mixes, I also just got a 4 quart stand mixer for xmas from hubby.
I have a hand mixer for when I need to be mixing two things at once and the big monster is just too big to do the job.

Cheers

Boy... this is a tough decision! And if I get even an extra bowl and beater set, there's still the issue of WHERE do I keep them!

Do any of you ever use the accessories of your mixer? Like a pasta maker or meat grinder? cookie press? Food processor? Both KAs and mine, the Electrolux assistent have these things available! Now, I'm kind of a granola gal, so I do eat organic and whole grain a lot...DH would like it better for sure if we ground our own meat for health reasons, but would I as I never have before and it's not part of my "routine".

If I don't go with getting a bowl for my mixer and decide to get a small KA (as my mixer is 8 quarts - don't need a huge KA), how hard are they to clean? And how messy do they get? My mixer is VERY easy to clean and it doesn't get very dirty... but since it's so huge, I never get it out except for HUGE jobs and I don't have room on my counters to keep a mixer out! The toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot and grinder have taken every inch of space on the one wall and the other is a 7"wide space next to the stove and a 18" space on the other sideof the stove and it would probably get splattered all the time.... I have a kitchen island, but running along that are my canisters from edge to edge, plus, I would still have to move it as these aren't "reachable" really...

Hmmm.... what to do? DH would FLIP if I had more than one mixer too... he already thinks that if I don't use my stand mixer like daily that it's not worth the cost! LOL
