Okay, so we are always making cakes for everyone else (and ourselves), but what if a very, very talented someone was going to make YOU a cake for your next birthday? What would it be? What flavor, what colors, what special decorating techniques, maybe even ones you haven't tried or mastered yet yourself.

Mine would be mostly purples for sure, and elegant... some combination of strawberry and white cake and chocolate frosting/buttercream!!! NO fondant, except for the decorations maybe. I would love to have lilacs and or hydrangeas on it, these are my favorite flowers of all time! I've never made them myself, but want to try someday.

I would actually prefer to bake the cakes myself and fill them (I'd do a 2 tier, one red velvet/cream cheese and the other chocolate/oreo). But I would ask for it to be frosted in vanilla frosting, and then have Ron Ben Israel knock out a fair few flowers to drench the cake in, like one of each he makes. These, I would take off and keep to copy icon_biggrin.gif, then eat my own cake.

Can i copy Dayti? her idea is soooo much better than mine haha!!

mine would have to be good ole Vanilla with cream and jam, no decoration at all, just with a nice sweet cup of tea . . . and a foot rub by a sexy man servant who will bring me my cake on a platter first lol. . XD

Would love a simple 2-tier in soft green with a few purple peonies. Bottom tier butter cake with raspberry filling. The top tier creme brulee cake with mocha filling. Yum! My family hates anything with coffee in it so I guess that means the whole top would be mine!!

I would like a tiered Irish Cream pound cake, much bigger than I would actually need for me and my family, covered with Swiss meringue frosting and smothered in meringue flowers.

If anyone tried to make me a birthday cake they'd be insane, cake would be the last thing I'd want. I'll take a big bag of potato chips, please.

I'd want pie! For the life of me, I cannot make a pie shell. Now, for every one of my birthdays, my husband makes me toll house pie (in a store bought shell, lol). He and I both need to take pie crust lessons from his mother!

I'd just be grateful someone was making me a cake!

Ever since i started caking, i've never had a birthday cake.... Everyone just assumes i'll make my own (which i absolutely refuse to do- why should the birhday girl make her own cake???)
I've even said i would be happy with a cupcake from local bakery with a candle in it, still no birthday cake for me icon_sad.gif

Hubby has promised that next year he will remember and will make sure i have a birthday cake! So i wont care what it looks like, at least i will have one!

My birthday is the end of this month and to be honest I love Costco Cake. Since I'm not about to make my own birthday cake, that's what I want. No mess, no fuss, and delicious!

I never make my own cake... I tell the hubby to run down to the store and grab me a walmart with that bettercream whipped stuff on it! Aren't I awful? This year I may do one though, I'm thinking about it. If I do, I may do something with chocolate and mint.... icon_smile.gif

I love Cake but for all the cake that I bake I only ever nibble it for a taste test. Also every cake I have ever had for my birthday has been store bought (after making cakes from scratch I can't eat these!) or made from a box (*Shudder* I know that you can get good flavors from box cakes and that they are moist but i just HATE the flavor, almost as bad as store bought!)

I think it would be a 3 tire Mad Hatter cake with a Alice and Wonderland theme (2010 I didn't want to go see it but my friend took me and I have Loved it ever since) Im thinking Blues, Purples and Greens, rabbits, Pocket watches, Top Hats a chess board and some ruined chess pieces. Would love a lemon Chiffon cake with raspberry preserves and Lemon buttercream, a chocolate cake with and Strawberry Rum buttercream, Then maybe a Maple bacon cake (I have never had this but I read about it the other day and omgosh it sounded so good! cant wait to try and make it)!

I made my own birthday cake this year. My sisters birthday is a week after mine so now that we're adults we celebrate together. Made us a 7 layer-ganache covered cake with mega roses made of modeling chocolate and tootsie roll roses, all dark brown, medium brown and white! I wanted over the top and my sis was happy too! It's in my photos but I haven't figured out how to put in the gallery number ,sorry! I'm all for making your own cake. 1) you know it will be good and 2) it's exactly what you want!

Nice question. I don't even get a 'Happy Birthday' phone call. I would like to know who would be so kind to get me a cake. Maybe one day someone who cares will.

But to answer your question, I really do not know who I would like to make me a cake? Maybe Toba Garret, her cakes are so delicious, and I think her work is unique, intricate and beautiful.

My colors would have to be every shade of pink known to man icon_smile.gif

You all ideas sound great though!

I have baked Bday cakes for my 4 kids, my parents, my inlaws when
i had them and my closest friends. I think the last time I got cake was at my Sweet 16 birthday and I am now 43. I refuse to make my own cake!!
However I would love a large Scotts man in kilt (shrit not required) to bring me even a hostess cupcake....

I too have made cakes for everyone in my family and also sell a birthday cake at least once a week so when I had my birthday last week I pulled out a vanilla bean cake from the freezer, crumb coated it and my 14 year old daughter frosted and decorated it for me. Having her decorate me a cake is the best!

My birthday is Christmas Eve, so NO WAY am I making my own cake! I would love a cake made by Highland Bakery in Atlanta...they do the most beautiful stuff! I'd like a yellow cake with Heath bars crunched up inside and a nice chocolate mousse filling and some dark chocolate buttercream....Ooooh. Maybe some gumpaste asiatic lillies in warm oranges and yellow. I think it would look great against the dark brown.

I still can't believe that anyone who makes cakes really wants a cake when it's their birthday! That's beyond me. I asked my family if they thought it would be a good idea to make me a cake, and my kids both said "No" right away. My husband said "And where would I get this cake, and who would make it?"

Could be worse, my birthday is two days after Christmas. So not only do I not get a cake(people are too stuffed from overindulging at xmas and need room for New Years eve, but my gifts are the crap everyone returned and didn't want the day before AND it's wrapped in Xmas wrapping paper.

I want a hamburger, a glass of wine, and empty house(no kid noise- or big kid(hubby noise) a bubble bath and a nice chick flick. Then hagen daaz (chocolate)
