Hi Everyone, can someone PLEASE help me. I have people wanting me to make cakes for them, which is great. I am not sure how i go about "prices" for them. Some are more complex with decorations than others. Any ideas????? thanks in advance Leanne from Australia
What I did first thing when I decided I wanted to start selling cakes was scope out the competition's prices, and what they offer No, I didn't call and make fake orders, I went and purchased goods (any excuse to eat cake! hehe!) figure out a low, middle, and high prices, and place yourself where you feel you stand as far as quality of cake and decorations go. Thats just the first part. Second ITEMIZE! Figure out how much your costs are, figure out how long it took you to make that rose, to frost that cake, how long were your lights on? This is all part of figuring out costs. One of the most important parts though, check the local laws for selling baked goods from home. Some areas may allow it with a few restrictions, others not at all. Where I am located, I can sell from home from a separate, health inspected kitchen, just so long as its not my everyday kitchen and a few other requirements...Our local HD is not nearly as scary as I thought they were! I am working one on one with the lady who takes care of our area and they are very helpful and understanding about start up costs! Good luck!
Thankyou for your comment. I have already spoken with my local council and they have done an inspection of my "Kitchen" and have only today given me the approval to bake & sell from home. I have also done a food handlers course, which is required here in australia. Thanks again for your advice. Regards Leanne
What state are you in?
I would also just look online at other cake sites in your area to get a rough idea
