I am sooooooo excited! I recently emailed Pillsbury and told them that I was interested in trying a couple of their commercial mixes. The local rep was very nice. She responded immediately and asked for my address so she could send the samples.

Fast forward one week to today.....I came home to two HUGE boxes. When I opened them, they each had a 50lb. bag of mix! Here is a pic of my samples: http://tinypic.com/r/2na37s0/7

That's fantastic! What was the second flavor (I can read creme cake base on one)? Now they will probably get 500 requests for samples all at the same time! LOL

The second flavor is "Baker's Plus White Cake Mix". You only add water and oil.

The Creme Cake Base, you add water, oil, eggs. The bag also tells what to add and how much to make:
Strawberry Creme Cake
Cream Cheese
Almond Poppy
Carrot
Peanut Butter
Banana Nut

VERY cool... I guess I never thought about the option of buying them in bulk like that. Which is kind of dumb of me... But anyway, do you know if there is a minimum order or anything like that? It sounds like these are just basic box mixes, so you could use them for WASC right?

This is interesting. The bakery I worked for always used Betty Crocker mixes and we tried to get them wholesale or in bulk and we were told they didn't do that...which was too bad because it was the majority of cake that we used and we had to pay retail (sans sales tax) but still.

dang! Those are huge! How many cakes would each one of those make?

From what I can see, you can't buy the mixes directly from Pillsbury, you have to go through a supplier such as foodservicedirect . com I am not sure what kind of minimum they have.

The rep who sent me the samples also sent me a guide to use for smaller, non-commercial mixers. The guide references a "3 Box Batch", using 3lbs. of mix. So I am assuming the 50lb. bag will yeild as many cakes/cupcakes as 50 cake mixes.

did you just get their email from a box of their cake mix or where did you find it? this is very interesting. I am curious to know what the cream cake mix is? Is that like a cake mix that has pudding in it?

This is exciting for me! I use 99% Pilsbury! I love their mixes, and so do my customers. My question is, is this something that's only available to you if you are a professional with a tax ID number? Also, I wonder what the cost is per bag? Thanks for sharing

We also contacted the Pillsbury sales rep in Ohio about getting a sample of the Bakers Plus mix. The sales rep was very nice and informative. He said they don't have "samples" but if I gave him my address he would send me a bag. I didn't realize it would be a 50lb bag, free of charge! We love it. Awesome texture and flavor. Turns out most of the larger bakeries around here use the same mix. you can only buy it from wholesale suppliers, but there is one about 45 minutes from us. If we had a shop, they would ship, but since we are a home based business we must go pick it up. We are about to go purchase our first bags in the next week or so as we have gone through the 50 pounder already. We want to try the chocolate next!

I love pillsbury mixes too. I was at my cake supply store and saw the big bag of cake mix. They had another brand too, but not sure what. Someone asked the sales associate how much was the bag, I think I heard her say $90. Since its a small owned business not dealing in bulk her prices may be higher than a distributer.

I tried to find someone to contact about samples and I just got the run around and was sent from place to place to place. I love pillsbury cake mixes and some of the commercial ones sound really yummy too!

Any reviews on the creme cake mix? How does it taste compared to DH?

I too contacted the Pillsbury rep and he was AWESOME. I received 1 bag of the Creme mix one bag of the regular one bag of the chocolate and one bag of the red velvet -- 200 pounds of cake mix!!!! I wish I had a copy of the guide for smaller mixers because I'm just starting out That would be very helpful for me. The rep put me in contact with the local supplier and the supplier is going to send me the buying info so I am not really sure how much the price of each bag is, but am so excited to try them all.

WHen you get that list about smaller amounts would you please post it? I was going to call the guy from MO, but then thought the same. I have a nice mixer as far as home goes, but nothing big enough to do what they send. Thanks.

I spoke to the local Pillsbury distributor here in NC yesterday and asked how I could use the mixes in a "home" bakery on a regular size KA mixer -- he said just to take the directions on the bag and divide by 10 to get the 1 pound size -- but I don't think that'll work because I weighed a regular size box of the Pillsbury mix and it weighted approximately 2.25 pounds. So if anyone else has any directions please POST. Thanks.

In Virginia this is the response that I received...

Our mixes that I handle are all 50 # bags. The Pillsbury mix you find at the grocery store is actually made by Smuckers as we own the Betty Crocker label. We do not have sample sizes available of our 50 # mix.

I talked to the rep for Florida and he is sending me samples of the mix in 50 lbs bags. He was a joy to talk to. Thanks OP for starting this thread.

I wish there was a similar set up for Duncan Hines..I seem to have better outcomes with their mix...
