My daughter is turning 4 in a couple weeks, and she wants strawberry cake. I personally haven't made a strawberry cake before, but am willing to do something along the lines of a strawberry filling in between layers. The cake will be covered in fondant or white molding chocolate. has to be kind of firm, but not too firm. I need it to be 2-tiered with a crispie treat sculpture (no too big, probably 10 in by 4 in in size). So if anyone can give me some advice as to what kind of cake/frosting combo's work well together, please let me know! Thanks!

My dad's favorite cake is a strawberry cake his grandmother used to make. It's a doctored white mix and you add fresh strawberries and strawberry jello.

The recipe is here

The frosting on the site requires refrigeration but I discovered if I substitute 1 10oz jar of seedless strawberry jam it's shelf stable and taste great. You just microwave the jam until you it's smooth and add it to the butter and powdered sugar. The cake should be sturdy enough for fondant.
