I need to put fondant over a ball cake and I'm not sure how to do this. Should I cover it using two pieces...cover the bottom half and then the top and camouflage the join? Or is there a way to cover it with one solid layer of fondant? Any suggestions?
I did this for the basketball cake in my photos. I used to seperate pieces, but was able to hide the seam with the black licorice rope used for the lines on the basketball. I think it would be very difficult to used one solid piece, but maybe someone out there has done it. Good luck!
I used MMF to cover a ball cake using one piece. The trick is to place the cake on a soup can or tall box so the fondant drapes around the sides and naturally gathers at the bottom. Then just mold the fondant underneath with your hands. I was scared to do it but it worked great on the first try. Good luck!
Here is a video. She's speaks Italian but you can see her cover a soccer ball around the 11 minute mark.
Thanks for all of your advice. I watched the video and did then covered it with one piece. This is the final product...

This was my first ball cake and I've learned a lot, so next time I will do things a little differently. Thanks again!
