I have a wedding cake to do in burnt orange. How do you all suggest I go about getting this colour and which brands are best. Do I airbrush ?(don't have a machine but if this is the best way to get the colour, I can see about borrowing one) or can I mix colours with gel paste for this?

Thanks!
Pearl

I did some bricks on a Mario cake once in a burnt orange color. I basically mixed together red, orange, brown, and black until I got the color "just right".

Good Luck!

Hey icon_smile.gif

Thanks for your reply. I mixed orange, red, brown and yellow to get burnt orange. I think I could have left out the yellow. It took so much colouring (Wilton) that by the time I got the colour, the fondant was not in good condition. The colouring altered the beauty of the fondant and it got very dry and was falling and ripping apart. I spent a whole day microwaving fondant for a few seconds so that I could get it in a pliable state to re-knead it. Rubbed my hands with shortening which helped but it was a horrible experience. I have since bought an airbrush machine and I hope I never have to do burnt orange ever again!
