Hello all..

I would like to use dulce de leche as a filling for an upcoming cake.. My question is , should i just use the dulce de leche from the can as a filling ? or should i mix the dulce de leche with something else? i have no clue what to do.. Has anyone tried this as a filling before? all advice welcomed.. thanks in advance icon_smile.gif

I think it would depend on your tastes. At the right temp, it would be perfectly fine to use as is or, if you wanted a lighter taste texture, you could mix it with mascarpone or whipped cream or something.

I use it right out of the can. I LOVE it, as do the people who eat the cakes.

It is kinda thick and sticky though, so it works better if you pipe it on then smooth it, rather than just trying to spread it right from the spatula.

Thank you ! I was thinking of just using it from the can. Thanks for the tip about pipping it on. Would you be able to tell me what types of cakes have you paired this filling with ?

The cans of dulce de leche I purchase, think its by Nestle, say to keep refrigerated. Do you keep cakes in fridge if you use this as a filling?

I use it with chocolate fudge cake. YUMMY!!!

And I haven't refrigerated the cakes because they are served the same day.

Ooh! How did you go about that? (Blend together, spread one atop the other, alternating layers...?)

I've used it straight from the can and just spread it on with my spatula with no problems. It's so good!

there is also sandwich cookie called Alfajor, from south america. It is filled with dulce de leche. I squeeze it and try to stain the border with the dulce de leche and then roll the border on grated coconut. It is the best!!! Our version can be whoopie pie with dulce de leche filling, what do u guys think??

I look at this as the same as using preserves and jams for fillings. The jars say refrigerate after open, but they are initially stored at room temp.

I've never had a problem using the Nestle's Dulce De Leche as a filling and leaving the cake out of the fridge. It has always tasted good and held up inside the cakes with out any issues. I do put leftovers, if I can keep the spoon out of it, in the fridge though. icon_smile.gif

A@lanana do you add anything to the nutella? because I find it hard to spread. Btw I am so for the whoopie pie with the dulce de leche filling!
