hello, I thought this was going to be such a nice easy cake day.. a nice two tier babys first birthday.. butter cream vanilla with black fondant cow spots.. and the base tier a 12" with red bandana .. a small smash cake and 24 cow cupcakes. so easy right.

How about when your spouse has the day off!? I started these (which were already baked and ready to finish)..at 11:30 this morning.. so ready to start something and he wanted something to eat, then he went outside to mow.. that didn't last long.

Before he was in cleaning the bedroom.. so of course I had to stop again to make sure that he didn't toss anything, or wash anything that would shrink.. oh yes he decided to help with the wash.. this went on the whole day.

I think he ate about 5 times today.. a little here a little there. And he wondered what was taking me so long. Anyother time the cakes and cupcakes would have only taken me 2 hrs at the most. I thought it was going to be a nice easy day. I am exhausted now.. waiting for the dishwasher and wash machine to finish and hope that there is still some hot water.

And the husband... asleep in the chair. Like he has had such a long day of hard work..lol. I dearly love my husband.. he is a blessing but him having fridays off until his company gets more work after the japan tragedy is going to kill me!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend.. I am going to try and stay dry with rainy deliveries tomorow.

EEEE! I know how you feel! I have a 3 and 5 year old, and a husband who has never opened a dishwasher... When he is home he THINKS he is helping me...no, I still cook, clean, take care of kids, then throw him into the mix, its a busy day to say the least!

He might offer to cook tacos or something easy everyonce in while, but I have learned my lesson with that! He is a VERY messy cook, and I end up having to clean up a bigger mess and spend more time doing it than if I had just done it myself!

Good luck tomorrow! I decided to take vacation days this weekend to lay around the house with the kiddos

Wow I'm hysterical reading your post, sounds like my life. Trying to complete an order on a Friday my hubby has off takes twice sometimes three times as long for some reason.

I get up early to get a head start, have my coffee, and get on with it, all of a sudden, hubby appears (in the middle of my bake job, I might add) looking for his coffee (sorry I say coffee was hot 2 hours ago).

He has the laundry basket in tow of course, (wait did I say I was doing laundry today?) today is order day no time for laundry. That's ok dear, he says, I'll handle it. What, you can't wash dark AND white together, NP how bout this red shirt with the whites :-/ So after sorting the laundry out, hubs is hungry of course smelling all the baked goods, can I cook some breakfast? :-/. What? Right in the middle of my baking.

Mind you I have two or three cakes spread out various cupcakes and more than likely a batch of buttercream and probably 20 or more gum paste somethings all vying for space in my kitchen, and he wants to cook breakfast.

Anyway it's nice to know I am not alone in my sometimes Friday misery, the Hubs you gotta love em, and I do, but seriously isn't there somewhere else they could be when I'm preparing an order?

I am hoping once we close in the garage and put me a commercial kitchen out there it will solve SOME of the problems, like finding a place to fry an egg in the morning, get my husbands need for coffee and other snack AWAY from me...is it just me, or do any of you other ladies get a little snappy at your husbands when they wake up every weekend, and its the same routine, even after you have told them LEAVE ME ALONE, I AM WORKING ??

OOOoO My husband does the SAME THING!!!! Or I will bring it to his attention the kids are pulling at my legs wanting juice, I will ask him to get it as I am covered in buttercream or something, I get the, "well, why can't you, you are in there, I am in the middle of an online poker game..."GRRRR

I am a hobby baker and only bake when it is my idea for family events, however, I so totally relate to what you are experiencing...though it is every time I am working on a caking project. We both work FT outside of the home and have nearly the same work schedule, the bulk of my caking is usually Friday night and Saturdays--when he is home.

Many blessings to you as you try to keep your patience with the perpetual interruptions and offers to help (in ways that would only make things harder on you). And know for certain that you are NOT alone!

While I'm not married...I live at home with my folks and NEVER FAILS...the kitchen will be empty all day and exactly when I start baking something EVERYONE comes in (even my brothers who don't live in the house...lol)

Sometimes when I'm finishing an all nigher my father will walk in and want to make his coffee - which of course is in the cabinet right above my mixer and I have to make sure that nothing falls in while he's getting his coffee.

Then I'll go "are you hungry dad" he'll say "no you go ahead and finish"...but he'll meander around the kitchen and then I just have to pause and let him fry and egg and make some toast or something...because I know he's hungry.

...it's just funny how everyone has these kinds of stories

I think think there's some kind of natural law that says that when you are trying to finish a project, that your significant other will interrupt you several times during the process.

My boyfriend does the same thing. It makes me smile that he's actually trying to help by trying to do the dishes or laundry, but he winds up making shirts grey that shouldn't be, or knocking things over while I'm working. I'm glad I just hobby bake. I'd go nuts otherwise! LOL Take care!!

LOL...same situation here!! I want to kick them all out the house when I'm baking.

Oh my God this whole thread has me laughing because this is so true! I purposely wait until late in the evening to to really do anything because my husband will be in bed then and I can work quietly at my own pace.

He drives me NUTS when I'm working. He'll come in the kitchen and comment about the powdered sugar on the counters or the pans in the sink...or announce "I'm hungry" to which I respond, 'then fix yourself something, I'm busy'.

Or he'll start talking to me when I'm really concentrating on decorating and say things like 'let's go out to dinner' when I have food coloring on my hands, icing on my shirt and my hair pulled back in a scarf while I'm cutting fondant...

I usually give him a dirty look and he'll say that 'I hate 'cake days'... you're always so grumpy!' He always loves my work when I'm through...but getting there makes me want to kill him!

My husband has been disabled since early in the year so he is ALWAYs home now but I still work a full time job with a lot of overtime. But just recently he has taken to getting things straightened up around the house. We now have 3 rooms cleaned out as well at the front closet and I just love it.

I have all of my caking things in a spare bedroom just basically stacked in the center of the room and when I need something it was almost impossible to find it. Lucky for me, he is a fantastic woodworker at heart (disabled carpenter by trade) and he couldn't take it any longer and recently built me two 7' tall bookcases to store my cake supplies/equipment on. It is great, I almost forgot what the carpet in that room looked like. Know I just need to find a way to organize those shelves.

He also has taken to doing the laundry as well which I love because that frees up my time so I can just rest or do my caking. He pretty well stays out of my way when I am in the kitchen and he gets up so much earlier than I that he almost always fixes breakfast himself. I am so lucky.

thank you everyone. It is nice to know that I am not alone with my husands help??? Did I tell you i am still trying to find my tax forms he has no idea where he put them?? I ask him to go in the storage room and bring me a cake board. I was in the middle of finsihing my cake at the time. He said he couldn't find it. I told him they are right there... on the shelf... I walked in behind him.. they were literaly.. right in front of his face... but he coudln't find them. So it only continues. Tomorow we look for the tax papers!! glad we got those extra few days...lol.
