Hi all,
Can anyone point me to directions on how to do a tiera?
I am contemplating either gumpaste or royal - it is for next Sunday.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!
Hi Trish,
There are a number of templates here on CakeCentral. Look in the gallery for them. I personally use gumpaste when I make mine.
Decide what size you need it to be, copy your template onto acetate and then wrap the acetate around the appropriate size container (coffee can, fondant bucket etc.), tape it on. Lay the containger on it's side, supported by rolled dish towels to keep it in place and give it a LIGHT coating of crisco or other shortening and you're ready to go. I put my gumpaste thru a clay extruder and just start building from the bottom up using a little bit of gum glue to attach the pieces to one another as you go. Let it set for a few days to dry and you're golden! I've never had one break.
I'll check my photos, if I don't have a picture of one I've made, I'll upload one so you can see it.
Hope that helps,
Lisa
I made one out of royal icing last week and it broke to pieces! You have to be REALLY careful and layer them real good and let them set for 48 hours to harden. Since i didnt have time to do a new one out of royal icing I made one out of fondant and drew on royal icing decorations. I would recommend you do the gumpaste one as well. I know I will next time I make one!
I have made a couple of tiara cakes and I found the templates here on CC. Here are a couple of templates, but there are several more you could find in the search...just type in tiara template.

This is a youtube video I used to get the general idea of how to make the tiara out of gumpaste. I found it very helpful to see someone actually making it.
