hi ya'll
I have an order for a wedding cake where the bride requested a specific ribbon and monogram cake topper. My q . is, who pays/provides the cake topper and ribbon? Me or her?
TIA[/i]
I have a wedding cake coming up where the bride wants silk flowers and ribbon. She actually offered to purchase both and bring them to me.
I have it in my contract that any "hard goods" ie, inedibles are the sole responsibility of the bride. And she is also responsible for how said items perform with/on the cake.
Reality is, you have no control over how much money those types of items cost, so you cannot take financial responsibility for them.
NOW, that all said, there are many times that a bride wants a "thin black ribbon" and I write it into her contract that I will purchase and then bill her for the item. But if she wants specific items, it really is in both your best interests for the bride to purchase them and get them to you at least 2 weeks prior to the event.

as others have said, most of the time the bride. I do NOT provide toppers, unless they have the specific they want, then i'll order it and mark it up for my time and a little profit. (jsut like any other place they would purchase it from)
For ribbon, i give them two options. 1) they provide the ribbon so they know that it will match exactly what they want (i give them the proper ribbon thickness needed for the design and the total length i will need) 2) i will buy ribbon, but can't guarentee it will match other ribbon/colors they have.
Guess which one they choose?
I provide the ribbon if it is one of my stock ribbons, if it is a specific ribbon they request then they must provide it.
