How would you put a colorflow picture onto buttercream so it doesnt start to dissolve. I need to make two images and I am trying to decide if I should pipe them with colorflow or royal icing. They will be going onto a buttercream cake.

Color flow and royal icing are basicly the same thing.

Some will tell you to put something between the transfer and the cake, but I never have bothered with what.

They won't melt the second you put them on buttercream. It is actually the moisture in the icing, not the grease that causes the pieces to soften, but it won't happen right away. I would keep it out of the fridge and would not close it up in an air tight container, like a cake carrier, but other wise you should be fine.

I have piped royal icing on crisco coated fondant (because I needed to get the powder sugar off) and it dried just fine with no issues and was still there a year later, hard as a rock (dummy cake).

As was mentioned it will not desolve into a puddle for hours if ever I have put colorflow and royal icing flowers directly onto b'cream cakes for years w/o problems. Yes, it will soften some after a bit but it should not disolve/get runny/puddle.
If you are still very worried use something like sugar cubes on the back of your piece to elevate the it above the surface of your b'cream.

I have put colorflow onto, and into, buttercream many times. It won't dissolve immediately. I did find, though, after several days, that a colorflow piece in buttercream still looked OK until I went to lift it off and then it crumbled almost immediately. So it's fine to leave on there for quite a while, but a few days, maybe not.
