Okay so I have a cake next month that has a few themes, the main one being hockey.
I wanted to make the hockey rink using a sugar, corn syrup, and water recipe - I call it sugar glass.
I want to have all the lines on the cake for the rink, with the center having a big 60 (60th b-day cake) then place the candy glass on top.
Issues, I want to put two nets and four hickey players on the ice but wanted to put them on skewers so all the weight isn't on the cake....how do I get holes through the candy glass? Melt it with something thin and metal so I can insert the skewer?
I don't want to make the rink thick but want it a nice thickness, does that make sense? Should I support the rink then place the nets and players on the sugar rink?
Will the sugar glass melt the fondant at all? or vise versa?
Hope someone can help me out or point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advacnce!
