I have some really large icing tips which I would like to try for spreading frosting and doing some cupcake frosting designs, but I'm not sure how to use them without a coupler - they are too large for use with a coupler.
How does that work? Do I just cut a small hole in the disposable bag and push the tip through?
Won't the icing shoot out around the tip?
Yep, you just clip the end of the bag and slide the tip in. The coupler is mainly to allow you to change tips quickly. I don't use a coupler for the 1M, the icer tip or if I'm doing a small amt of a single color. Never had a problem.
-Edited to fix typos. This is what I get for posting on my phone
They actually make large couplers for those tips. But I don't own them. I do what the above poster does. I have bags cut for large tips and bags cut for couplers.
Aha! Thanks so much for clearing that up for me. I have so much to learn, and I always know where to turn
I may have cut my hole too big those times when the icing came out around the tip. Or maybe my icing was too stiff and I was squeezing too hard.
Thanks again. Now I can stop going crazy looking for gigantic couplers
I have the couplers for those large tips. Sometimes I use them and sometimes I don't. If I'm doing alot of work with that tip, I use the coupler but otherwise not.
I actually have some that are not quite big enough for the large couplers, and too big for the standard coupler. Go figure. Part of the problem is my mother gave these to me as a birthday gift and instead of going with Wilton or Ateco she went with SODIAL.
Now who in the world has heard of SODIAL? NOT ME!
Fat daddio as large tips made of polycarbonate that have an " edge " on purpose, they don't require couplers. But since you are using plastic bags, like everyone said, just cut a smaller opening and make sure you squeeze the tip in and nothing will shoot out the sides. Just use a knife / scissors to cut them out when you're done.
what I like about using the large coupler...Yes I have to have a couple bags cut just for it but you can add the small coupler to it and so use both the large and small tips....Nice when you are working with one color and lots of different tips.....
Can you tell me where to get the couplers or what they are technically called (size, number, etc...) so I can find them? Thank you.
