Not sure what they are called- pedestals that you put the cake on while you are decorating. I am looking to buy one- not too expensive, just a basic rotating stand. Any recommendations?

They are called turn tables. Good ones aren't cheap and cheap ones aren't good. Wilton are the worst!!! I have a Fat Daddios and love it.

Turntable? I have the basic wilton one. I am in the process of getting the new Fat Daddio's but Sugarcraft.com was out of it, so I'm looking for another distributor.

I agree with Tiggy. I have a wilton (plastic) and it is ok, but it really doesnt get the cake up high enough to save my back.

I bought a wilton that has a ceramic base (normal price $70) off of Craigs list for $30 and I love it.

Spend the money (if you can) and get one that you will like for a long time.

Something that turns smoothly...the heavy duty wilton one wobbles horribly. Pay the shipping and I'll give the wilton one away.

I spent less than $10 and got a lazy susan. It works great! The only thing it doesn't do is tilt.

It doesn't have a brand name on it. It is a wooden one that I found at wally-world. If you get it home and it doesn't spin smoothly, you can always take it back.

Ok...I'm going to sound like the redneck caker, but I've been using an old flat turntable that I bought years ago for my kitchen shelves. To raise my cakes up higher I get one of my decorative cake pedestals, put that on the turntable and put my cake on the pedestal. I use a rubber shelf liner to keep the pedestal from moving on the turntable and another one on the pedestal to keep the cake from moving and voila! It ain't pretty but it works in a pinch! One day I'll probably buy a good one, but so far this works great and I'd rather spend the money on other cake stuff.

Do you guys think the one on amazon looked ok?

Hi guys, just wanted to update you. I bought a pottery sculpting turntable from amazon for $30 and I am IN LOVE. I made 2 cakes on it so far and it turns SO smoothly. I am so happy I didnt splurge on a $70 cake turntable. Thanks for all of your help.

home depot sells the turn plates to make your own lazy susan. a friend of mine has just installed new countertops in her kitchen, so we used a 10" cake circle, cut a circle out of the formica, put the plate on, then made a base out of mdf and a wooden banister cap. the plates turn smoothly, and the banister cap raised it to the perfect height for decorating cakes.

I found a lazy susan at TJ MAxx for $30.00. It's marble, about 15 inches, with the best ball bearings, and it will spin smoothly with several rotations holding a heavy cake. I have a cake turntable, but it will never be used again.

BB&B has a $10.00 clear cake stand on ball bearings that they keep in stock. It is a great alternative, and much better than the Wilton.

I love my reversible turntable from CK Products. It is available from Amazon for $43.99--not as inexpensive as some, but certainly cheaper than others. It is constructed of wood and covered in Formica. One side is rectangular for working on sheet cakes or square cakes; the other side is round--14" I believe. It turns easily and is a breeze to clean. It is listed under cake turntables on Amazon.

I have a metal Ateco stand, it's sturdy and doesn't wobble.
