I've been reading the forum for awhile but never posted. I'm wanting to make gumpaste by mixing fondant and Tylose powder. I don't buy, fondant, though, I make and use MMF. Will it work to combine the two or do I have to use storebought fondant?

Adding tylose powder won't make gum paste - it will make modelling paste, OK for lots of accents, but wouldn't roll out fine enough for delicate flowers.

I use homemade MMF with tylose powder for all of my figures. The only time I use gumpaste is for super thin accents, such as delicate flowers as Moondance mentioned. After a while you get a feel for how much tylose powder to add (the fondant starts to feel slightly rubbery).

I use MMF exclusively for all pieces on the cake that will be eaten.

I have Satin Ice for my cake dummies and use that for most everything else that won't be eaten (bows, figures, etc.). It dries hard. Almost like gumpaste. Enough to hold it's shape, anyway.
