cake pics with prices - Page 44

The December/January issue of Brides Magazine has pictures of several wedding cakes along with the prices. They are nice cakes, but nothing most of the posters on this thread couldn't do. The lowest priced one was $9 a slice.

I believe your price is very fair and right on!  Beautiful cake!

Pricing is the hardest part of our jobs.  I know I still undercharge at times.  With the price of ingredients, I have learned to be more conscientious of my pricing.  This is a cake I made last weekend.  My customer actually drove about 3 hours from her home to pick it up.  The inside of the cake is yellow and purple zebra stripes.  The cake is covered in buttercream, and the tiger eye on top is a buttercream transfer.  The stripes on the bottom layer and the letters are made from hand made fondant.  Bottom tier is 8", top is 6".  I live in Central Louisiana.  I charged $150 for this, because it was not that time consuming, and the detail work was really easy.  I've learned that when someone "balks" at my prices, I remind them that I do "specialty" cakes, made to order and use fresh ingredients.  If they want a cardboard tasting cake that has been frozen and pre made icing, they should go to their local grocery store or Wal-Mart!

Such a beautiful cake!  Working with black is difficult, but you pulled it off!  If I was doing this cake in my area, I would charge around $650, plus delivery.  And I wouldn't cry about it if they found someone to do it cheaper!

This was my first cake I had ever done. 10",8",6" tiers.I made it for my son's birthday. If I were to sell it I would have priced it at $175.

Hi,
Your cakes are great! I love in rural NY, not a wealthy area by any means, and 10 years ago I paid $80 for a Barbie sheet cake, simple, nothing fancy. You are seriously undercharging for your talent!

Thank you. It's definitely something I'm doing research on. I'm working on a set per serving price list.

Wow! Where I'm from you're lucky to get $50-$65 for a 2 tiered cake.

I charged $35 for this one.  Way underpriced.  I just can't get higher prices in my area.  I had around $15 in ingredients and by the time I finished it I made around $4 per hour. Live and learn. This is a 10 in two layer.

This is a 6, 8, 10 & 12 square covered in homemade fondant.  I only charged $185 for this.  I know....crazy!  I probably made around $1 per hour or labor.
My calculations say that's $.92 per serving!  Live and learn!
