I am finally officially starting my own business! Sweet on You Designer Cups and Cakes. But my question is what is the best software to keep track of expenses and income? I was thinking about getting Cakeboss to figure out expenses but I am assuming that it doesn't do the general accounting stuff. All advice is appreciated! Thanks!
I highly recommend QuickBooks...once you have it set up it is very easy to manage invoices, payments, and expenses, and it interfaces directly with TurboTax. Setting it up initially can be challenging if you're not familiar with accounting, but there are classes and consultants out there that can help.
Quickbooks is the way to go!! I love it! Cake boss is nice to figure out your recipe costs but is not robust enough for a growing business.
QuickBooks is available for Mac, but cake boss is not (unless you run it with a Windows emulator).
Check around for the best pricing on Quickbooks. They definitely vary. I think I bought mine on Amazon.
beware when buying quickbooks. I purchased over the internet and it was a fake . They had all the legal stuff on the site. even the bbb logo. The disks came and they were fake. Goto the quickbook site to purchase.
I think they all get horrible reviews at some point. Not everybody knows enough accounting to not have any problems at one point or another.
I gave up doing it all myself and hired an accountant.
At some point I used Mind Your Own Business (MYOB) which I really liked, and I've also used Quickbooks. I've had macs all my life.
My advice is that you go into their websites and whenever you're going to have some time to play with them, download the free trial version for 30 days. That's what I do with most stuff.
MYOB is now called AccountEdge. There's a link here for downloading a trial version.

Try to do the same with Quickbooks. I'm sure they have something similar.
Quickbooks works for me. I already used that for my husband's business as he is a Consultant, so when I started my own business, it was really easy for me, as everything was familiar.
It is fairly easy to get to grips with though I am unsure about the MAC version.
Congrats on your new business
