I need help....no one in my town makes these and people are asking me how much I charge. Well, I have no idea!

I have figured out that the recipe that I use (basic yellow with cake extender recipe) costs me about .42 for each cake ball and I am thinking about selling these at 1.00 each. I would only make them available for the holidays. I kind of want to make it worthwhile to make these.

Any suggestions?

Also what should I use to package these????

Thanks a lot!

I would charge at least 1.50 each. At a dollar a piece you may be so swamped with them that you burn out quickly.

Hey mamalove--
I have checked on another website and they charge $11.95 for 1#, $22.95 for 2# and $32.95 for 3#. I was figuring on charging $1.25 each for mine, that figures close to 3X the cost to make. Maybe $12.50 a dozen. Still feeling people out to see what they would pay. Asking friends after they sample.

Hi Annette,
I'm glad you asked this question. I have been making the cake balls too and wonder what to charge. I love them although I make mine a lot smaller. I use a mini cookie scoop which I'd guess is about 1/2 the size of what you're making.

I'll be watching to see what people charge too. Where in AZ are you? I'm in Gilbert.

I make the larger ones too and sell a box of 25 for $15 or two boxes for $25...but I guess it all depends on the area!

If you want to package them in "two" you could use the little bow boxes that are made by Mod Pac...I have used them as favors for weddings and such. I posted an anniversary cake and in the picture you can see the little boxes. Otherwise, I package them in "25" by using a 10" x 10" box.

Annette - sorry so late on this post, i just ran across when doing some research on cake balls...

anyway if you check Michael's (JoAnn's too, but mine (83rd Ave and Bell) doesn't have as much variety) they have in the candy-making section a bunch of different cups you can use for packaging - tiny ones bon-bon sized in white, and colored foil (i think red and blue and silver and gold?), and then larger ones that are still smaller than reg. cupcake size.

they also have candy boxes that fold up and make nice presentation in different sizes and colors. and candy box liners so you can stack more than one row into a box.

are you a member of the cake clubs here in AZ? we have one on the east and west side - where are you located? PM me and I can give you more info...the 1st annual cake show is coming up next month and we need entrants now! icon_biggrin.gif

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond to everyone's suggestions. I have been without a computer for a while.

Regarding the cake balls, I have decided to charge $1.00 each and I have two big orders coming up. This will be my first attempt at making something to officially sell.

I do live in Arizona but I live in Douglas, which is on the Mexico border. So, no I do not have access to a Michaels of JoAnns. These are about two hours away from me. I did decide to package the balls in a decorated shirt box in holiday cupcake liners. I think they will fit nicely. Of course this week I have been doing some experimenting. This for me is the hardest part. I really lack in the creativity department!

Again, thank you all for your suggestions and help!
