Instructions for black high heel:

I gave myself two weeks to make the shoe.giving the shoe plenty of time to dry between steps. I actually have a dehumidifier in my forth bedroom which I use as a drying room for such projects. I mixed and matched two different templates both of which I found on CC. The first template (which I made larger in a word document) I used for the sole and insert:

The front straps, back of heel (Not the heel itself) and the ankle strap I used a modified (just cut them bigger) version of template:

The first day I made the sole of the shoe with black tinted gum paste. I didnt add a ton of gel coloring because I knew I was still going to paint the shoe with more black in the end, I just wanted a nice base color. After the sole was cut I placed it on a cutting board (so I could move it around easily) and against a large upside down cereal bowl then placed it in my drying room. I let the gum paste sole sit for two days so that it would dry thoroughly. If you dont let it dry completely it will crack when you start to work with it againI speak from experience.

The next step is to add the actual heel. I hand mold my heels out of tinted gum paste. I just roll it and shape it until I find a shape I like then I attach it under the back of the shoe with gum glue (small amount of gum paste mixed with water). I set the ceramic cereal bowl on the front of the shoe to prevent it from falling over. Again, I let the heel of the shoe dry for several days.

Next I added the shoe liner and painted it with silver dust mixed with Rum and let it dry overnight. Someone had asked why I dont use Vodka..I just dont like the smell so I use rum.

Next I added the three straps going across the front of the shoe. I used the same black tinted gum paste. I used crumpled up plastic wrap under the straps to give them shape and hold them in place. I use gum glue to adhere the straps to the side of the sole. I also added the back of the heel with the gum glue. I had to hold this piece firmly in place for 5 or 10 minutes until it was safe to let go. I did use a little thicker piece for this step because I knew that it would have to hold the weight of the ankle strap with the rhinestones.

After several days of allowing the piece to dry I added the ankle strap. Again, I used a little thicker piece of the tinted gum paste. I used two brand new kitchen sponges stacked under the strap. They were the right height, light weight and held the strap in place for a few days so it could properly dry.

The next step was to add the strap running up the front of the shoe connecting everything. I just cut a piece of tinted gum paste to fit and folded it over the top ankle strap. I again used the sponges and some crumpled plastic wrap to give it the proper shape and to hold the pieces in place. I then allowed them ample time to dry.

The ruffles on the center strap were the next step. I cut thin rectangular strips of tinted gum paste, one at a time so they wouldnt dry and crack, and added them to the center strap. I used gum glue to adhere them and plastic drinking straws (cut into shorter pieces) to give them their shape. I removed the straws after a few minutes in fear that one would get glued in by the gum glue.

The following day I painted the shoe with a mixture of Karo, black gel coloring and rum. I do not measure the ingredients.if I had to guess I would say its half and half then add enough gel coloring to get the proper coloring. I painted everything except for the bottom of the shoe, because it would then dry to the cutting board it was sitting on, or the silver liner. I let the shoe dry for a half a day then painted a second coat.

After the shoe was as dry as it was going to get, the shoe to date is still a little tacky, I added the rhinestones. I found them at JoAnn Fabrics in the scrap booking section. They had adhesive dots on the back of each stone and easily stuck to the shoe.

I hope you found this helpful!

Thanks for your interest!
