How Do I Make Cake Look Like Swiss Cheese?

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I'm relatively new to this.

I made a few mice of gumpaste/fondant (see attached picture). I really like the cheese cakes people have made with mice, but I don't know how to make the fondant look like cheese with holes in it. Suggestions would be lovely! Thanks in advance!

It looks like the use something like the handle end of a wooden spoon to make indents to look like holes. Check out this cake.
