I was asked by a local bakery to give some cake decorating classes and what I would charge per hr. I had done cakes for the previous owner but the new owner doesn't do many cakes ,because I was supposed to do them for the new owner also, which I did for the previous owner for a percentage of each cake I did. I think if she (new owner) does classes she still won't sell any cakes either way I would still make a little. Just want some input on this.
do you actually want to teach? being a good teacher takes certain skills and personality. just cause you got asked to do it doesnt mean you have to do it. its ok to say you dont want to, youd rather focus on making cakes - although it sounds like you need to revisit this agreement with the owner!
i dont think classes will impact on how many cakes are sold. if people want to make cake, they arent going to buy it in the first place. then again they might realise its too much hard work, and order more!
if your going to teach, who supplies the material, ingredients, worksheets, recipes etc.
do you have free reign in choosing what topics to teach? do you want to do a few one off classes, or more of a few weeks course.
what do you want to make per hour?
how many students is there space to teach, and how many do you think you can really supervise and assist at once?
just some things to think about!
xx
Thanks for the advice. I do some cakes on my own now and I was thinking the same thing. I took my 1st class at a craft store in 1986 and mostly do cakes for friends and family, and have taken other classes recently at a Michael's store, I think i will just say no that is also what my husband said. Thanksagain for the input.
