Thanks yall. Decorated cookies are a pain in the a**. But since I'm updating my price list I want to make sure I got a good price on them, so good in fact I hope that I'm not bothered with having to do them LOL.

Facebook is free and great advertisement. I didn't buy the ad with them though, just made a business page and started making albums. Every time I do a cake I can easily upload the picture, post it to my profile. I have NO idea how to add anything to my website. But I usually get more birthdays, showers and stuff like that than weddings.
If you can't find time it do it right..how will you find time to do it over?

I rarely ever sell my cookies. One, I'm not licensed. Two, no one who asks for them wants to pay what they're worth. For example: I was asked by a good friend of my sister's how much I'd charge for some baby shower cookies, using an intricate design that the mom-to-be wanted. I was feeling generous, and said I'd do them for $2 each. Long pause. "Oh, the other ladies organizing the shower would NEVER pay that much for a COOKIE!" Not surprised. Sigh.

I haven't done cookies for customers before, but did have a recent interaction...I received a call a few days before Thanksgiving from a regular corporate customer asking for cookies for gifts for some of their clients. They would have needed them 3 days from the call...I wasn't interested in figuring out pricing, etc in that short time frame, so just told my client that I could do cupcakes, but not cookies. She sounded quite irritated by my response and I haven't heard from them since, I don't know why they thought I did cookies all of a sudden when I'd only done cakes for them before!

I brought into work the Valentine cookies I posted last week (Hearts & Bows), and more than one person commented, "you could make money selling these." Again, the $2 per cookie price came up, as in "I bet you could even get as much as $2 each!" That wouldn't even net me minimum wage! People have no clue the amount of work that goes into decorated cookies!

Glad I found this thread. Customer wanted a 2 tier hello kitty cake w/ smash cake. I quoted $100 which I thought was reasonable. She emailed and asked how much w/out the smash cake. I knocked $10 off. She emails back... Sorry, just found out my mom is buying me a cake... Can you make 25 hello Kitty cookies? I'm hoping she balks at the price, cookies are not worth the time.

Thank you! It's very nice of you to say!

Sugar N Spice Cakes, I'm sure she thinks cookies will be LOTS cheaper! If you want an easy out, you could always tell her you can't do the cookies because of copyright issues.

Amen!

They really don't. The longer I spend on each cookie the higher the price.
