Hi There! My mother is in the hunt to get me a Gel Pro Mat for Christmas. I really don't want her to spend the money if it's not neccesary. Are these mats indeed worth the cost? Is there a cheaper mat that is similar & has all the same benefits? I thought I'd ask you guys since were doing the same things. If I read a rating on the internet It may be someone that is not on there feet as much. I will say I've been having a lot of knee fatigue & foot swelling from baking & being in the kitchen all day. What are your thoughts?

I just got one from my wonderful sister for my birthday and I love it!!! I have hardwood floors in my kitchen and spend lots of time at the island working on cakes so this is a big help It has just the right amount of cushion and support.

I would suggest checking out Kurative mats by Kaemark Salon Furnishings at http://www.kaemark.com/Kurative.html. My mom is a hairdresser and spends all her time on her feet. She has had her mat for 10 years and it is still working great. She got me one as a gift when I graduated from culinary school. I love it! It makes a huge difference. I think they are more expensive than the Gel Pro mats but since my Mom's has lasted for 10 years and counting, I think they are worth the money in the long run. Another thing to think about is your shoes. Good, supportive, comfortable shoes are worth the investment. All of my Chefs from school recommend Dansko clogs. They are really comfortable and come in slip-resistant.

I love love love my Gel Pro! I used a BB&B 20% off coupon when they had them on sale so paid about 140.00 for the large and it's worth every penny. One thing to watch is the edge curling, I had this issue and returned it (after almost a year) to Bed, Bath & Beyond and was given a new one with no hassle.

I have tile flooring, which is great to clean but hard on the feet, back and legs the mat makes all the difference. I've worked in industrial kitchens and used the commercial mats and I prefer the Gel Pro.

I have a gel pro mat as well and it really does help. It allows me to stand much longer than I have been able to in the past to work on my cakes.

I'm glad this came up, I saw one of those last year and have been wondering about it ever since.

Costco was carrying them. I don't know if they still are.

What about the non-slip mats at lowes or home depot? They are the one's with the holes in it. They offer some cusion too. I know that they aren't pretty but I bought one and they feel so much better.

I got a small one from Costco, and it is wonderful. The other day while drinking coffee I was thinking it would be AMAZING if the floors in my house were all covered with this mat.... probably then I would not have all the pain in my legs and feet.... Ahhh sweet dreams!!!

I too was having incredible back, leg and feet pain from being on my feet all day......I don't have any type of mat in my kitchen. I switched my shoes to Birkenstocks and now I can be on my feet 12-18 hours and absolutely no pain anymore.

I have one and frankly my back (and feet) hurts just as much after a long day of caking as it does without it. This is just MHO, but I'm not sure the cost is worth it. I have a cheap foam mat (from Walmart) that's in front of my sink that works just as well and it only cost $10!
