Was multi-tasking and supervising kids' craft project while mixer was whipping away at whipped shortbread and crash! Didn't see it coming -my $500 mixer (wedding gift) was on the floor. Repair place doubts it can be fixed and I'm in serious mourning.... Burnt out my hand mixer trying to make a cake last night. And this is at the height of X-Mas baking season!
It was a 475 watt- don't really have the $ to replace it at that price...I make a lot of fondant with it - will a 250 watt do fondant or will I burn it out? Walmart has one on for $188, which is a good price...Where in Canada (AB, specifically)is the best deal for a KA? I could maybe justify $250... Also, would kijiji or a pawn shop be worth a look? Or are there better deals on line? I cannot live without a decent mixer!
TIA
I definitely would try pawn shops in this economy. There will be women that had to have a mixer that matched their decor.
I'm finding all kinds of stuff in resale shops.
Sorry about your KA, hopefully the repair guy was giving you the worst scenario.
My KA Classic has actually fallen out of a pickup bed that had a huge lift kit on it. (hunting truck) Falling out of my car minimum 3 times and counter tops on to tile/cement floors at least twice with the cord still plugged in, she still runs.
Make the repair guy look at it again. If it's Hobart KA, it probably can still be fixed.
Amazon is doing a Black Friday on the 600 Pro. You have to send in the rebate but it's coming in at $250US, depending on the color.
I have seen them at costco in calgary for $299 but don't think I have seen a new one anwhere near that cheap anywhere else. I doubt that a 250 watt will last long if you are mixing fondant in it.
try Craigslist. Also, at Loew's today a 5 qt Kitchenaid was about to be around 150.00. You could try there..
Sorry this happened to you. And people wonder why cake costs so much!
Do you not have Contents insurance?
If so i would put in a claim - no different to dropping a camera - or someone knocking the tv.
Worth a try.

Go check out Cayne's Housewares (www.cayneshousewares.com). They've got a wide range of KA models that start in the mid $200s and go up from there. They're in Toronto as well,so you're working with Canadian prices.
If you're in Canada, what about The Shopping Channel? They have several KA models and they have "easy pay". That's where I bought mine about 4 years ago. (I'm in Ontario.) Now I need to get the pasta attachment for my gumpaste...maybe for Christmas!
Sorry about your KA...especially like you said...it's the height of Xmas baking season!
Hope all works out well for you...one way or another! Good Luck
Wow, I can't believe he says it can't be repaired! Mine survived a pretty devastating flood that destroyed everything else in the house...we took it to a Hobart service place, they repaired it, and I've been using it at least weekly for the past 3 years with zero problems.
I'm sorry this happened, right at this time of year. Talk about sucky timing! If there's any time when you'll want your KA, it's now. I hope something can be worked out and soon!
Try ShopKitchenAid.com and search their outlet store. They have refurbished KA bowl-lift mixers for $189.00. Kitchen Aid also has an eBay store that you can check out.

The Shopping Channel currently has the 6QT 575watt Professional for $699 with a $50 rebate. Cayne's has it for $479 I think, except they won't do the 6 easy pays like TSC. It's too bad this wasn't a week ago. They had this model on as their ShowStopper with an extra bowl and something else. I got my second KA on TSC last Christmas when it was a showstopper. I don't know if they'll do it again before the end of the year.
Check out Super Store, not sure if they all have same sales, but where I am they are on sale at a fairly decent price, also check Canadian Tire, they had some on sale.
Hope this helps.
amazon.com is the lowest I have found. I just bought my third one there today. Kitchenaid has rebates now.
I just checked Amazon ca and they have the 4.5 classic KA in white for $214.99, and the 5 Qt Artisan in Metallic Chrome, for 319.98. Theres other styles too but the cost is higher than what you're looking for.
Seems they offer free super saver shipping on KA mixers same as Amazon US. If you find a mixer you'd like to buy, be sure to check the free shipping option before finishing your transaction, or a shipping charge will automatically be added.
On amazon.com in the US, every color is a different price, so click on them to find the lowest. Do you have the rebate? They are $20.00 to $50.00 off here.
Hi , so sorry to read about ur KA . Mine actually fell off the counter couple of times but runs fine . I just recently bought a new one , it's 6 q professional . I got it for$200 from kitchen aid website .Do check the deals on their site .

Good idea, but with my content insurance, the deductable is $500 so I wouldn't be any further ahead....

Ohhh bugger - it was just a thought as many don't realise they can claim things like that - do hope you can find one soon and at a resonable price.

If you have a Sam's club check them out. I got a really good deal on the professional kitchen aid even with paying the membership fee. Good luck in finding one.
Call your insurance agent anyway; the deductible sometimes doesn't apply to certain situations. I had a power outage for 4 days early this year and lost the contents of the refigerator and freezer. Someone told me to call the insurance company and check. I figured there wasn't a chance because of the deductables, etc. Surprise, the contents of the frig and freezer were covered 100%.

I used to love shopping at Sam's Club and still do when I go to the U.S., but sadly all of ours in Canada have closed.
I think Home Outfitters Canada has a huge deal on Kitchenaid right now - if you buy one you get not only a rebate but a money card - might check out their website? The Artisan ends up being $250 with the money card ($20 for every $50 spent) and the Kitchenaid moneyback rebate ($50)

Many of the colors are under $300.
Go to Overstock . com I bought my 7 qt Kitchen Aide Pro there last month for $295 with a 15% coupon off buy they have some good prices and as of right now shipping is either $1 or free. I love mine.

Great to know - I will give them a call because it never hurts to ask!
Saw a Cuisinart mixer for sale for $300. It has an 800 watt motor and 5.5 lt bowl. Got lots of good reviews online. Is it as good as Kitchenaid? I make a lot of fondant and would love that horsepower! Any thoughts/advice?

Wattage doesn't always count. Capacity does. You might want to hold off for the 7qt Cuisinart instead of buying the 5.5, if you're going to be making a lot of fondant, icings etc.
My opinion only but.. The 7Qt will cost you more money, but in the long run, you'll probably be a lot happier with a larger size.
Heres an article of buying a stand mixer you might find interesting.

Did some checking for you.
Cuisinart 7 quart, 1000 watts - $439.99 at Sears in Calgary. On sale till Dec 5th.
So for an extra $139 bucks you could have the larger mixer. Not a bad deal considering everything in Canada is more expensive anyway!

That happened to my old blue about 12 years ago. My now ex husband winds electric motors and armitures for a living. He fixed it in 5 minutes. Still works great if not better today. It is a little offcenter so it slightly hits the side of the bowl so it whips things faster.
