Hi All!
I am currently wanting to make some veiners/molds from some orchids and was wondering if there was any tutorials for making molds from flowers.
I plan on using Silicone plastique and was curious as to when i mold around the "Throat" of the flower..

I've never made a silicone mold. But I've been in demos and read stuff.

I thought it has to be something pretty firm to make a mold.

There are tons of orchid making cutters and veiners already.

Me I'd save my mold material and buy it ready made.

But I'm not an expert.

Well--come to think of it I have made molds & forgot.

okie doke so i have gone and got some beautiful cymidium orchids and was suprised at how hard and strong they are!
So I'm attempting to making molds now, so far so good!

Really with silicone? Cool!

As with any commercial molds, I would make the throat part of the orchid by cutting the real orchid throat in a way that the throat mould part is flat, after which you would assemble the GP throat by wrapping it around the centre part of your GP orchid. So if you were veining the throat, it would be a flat veiner too.

Having said that - I have only ever seen molds for the petals and sepals, not for the throat section, when buying silicon moulds. Have got a hard plastic mold of a singapore orchid, but its a PITA to use, and I wouldn't bother with a special veiner for the throat part. IF you want to vein it, just use a petal/sepal veiner before rolling it around the centre portion of your GP orchid.

thanks for the tips! I didn't see the replys of this until now when my molds and first flower are complete haha.
I ended up making it by wrapping the mold around the throat of the flower and then doing the inside part (if that makes sense?)

WOW - I think your orchid came out beautiful. Silicone Plastique can be used in so many ways - I would have advised you to go ahead and apply it to the part that you want to duplicate and it looks like you already did.;l Can you post a picture of the mold you made, I would love to see it.

Some of those long skinny ones around the outside look wired.
You inserted wires into the mold?

It's real pretty! Some of the edges need to be thinned & cleaned up but it's amazing for being molded.

I'm not a mold guru--I'll stick to the cutters & veiners.

Hey guys, I'll post the pics of the mold/veiner peices later. It wasn't a mold of the entire flower, I just made veiners from the separate peices of the flower. So the throat for example. And all the petals are wired.
