Hi I'm new to this website and apologise if this question has been asked before.
I'm making my first carved cake for my dad's birtday and noticed on a the tv programme Ace of Cakes that the cover their cakes with some sort of icing before they put the fondant on. I was just wandering what type this is and if anyone knew the recipe for it.

Cover the cake with buttercream or ganache, depending on your preference.
