making a cake this weekend which will be pretty simple in that i will make a slab and then a round on top of that one which will have a model car as the topper

i want to make either just the car or the round cake and car turn - in essence like they do at the auto shows

Maybe try a turntable used for model trains or miniature models. Here's an example of what I'm thinking:

How big is the round cake? The only concern would be to make sure you find one that can handle the weight of the cake. If the cake is too heavy for the turntable it won't turn so be sure to find out how many pounds it can take. Here's one that can hold up to 8 lbs but it's a little more expensive.

You may want to make the round cake a dummy cake so that it is lighter, you could even cut the middle out the dummy cake foam to recess the turntable inside.
