Could someone please advise me how to get an ivory colored frosting - I have tried a dot of brown and other colors and I always end up with a peachy color - is there a secret without getting an actual "Ivory" color - I don't have time to have one shipped to me. Thanks!!!
I use regular vanilla too...and depending on the recipe, I will use butter instead of some or all of the shortening....
I use half butter, half shortening and dark vanilla extract. If that isn't ivory enough, I add a touch of brown food gel.
Not sure of your time constraints and I don't mean to point out the obvious, but 'Americolor' makes an ivory color and it's very nice!
I agree with all that has been said!!! Using half butter and dark vanilla in your BC should do the trick!!
If the dot of brown is too peachy (and I agree with the above posts with the vanilla as well) then add just a tiny bit of yellow or gold, very tiny, to counteract the reddish tint of your brown.
There are two types of ivory anyway...a more "blush" colored which lends towards pink or the one that lends more towards a yellow....so just add whichever makes it the ivory you want...sounds like a dot of brown and a tiny dot of yellow in your case....
Thanks - I knew there was an actual "ivory" color - but I need it in 3 days - and I wouldn't get it in time - the vanilla sounds like the perfect solution - or the touch of yellow - thanks again!
I use half butter, half shortening and dark vanilla extract.
This is what I do, too. It makes a lovely, creamy ivory color. I rarely make completely white icing.
