I had read posts on here about adding a tub of store bought icing to a cake to make it more moist. Sounded great so I thought I would try it.

I made the Cake Mix Doctor Bride's white cake and just added a 16 oz. container of Duncan Hines french vanilla frosting. I popped it in the oven and went to do something else. About 20 minutes later I thought 'that cake smells odd". When I looked in the oven it had puffed up and bubbled over making a big smelly mess! I had even measured the amount of batter I put in the pans. I usually just eyeball it but since I was trying something different I measured the recommended amount.

Any ideas what happened? I tasted some of the mush left in the middle of the pan and it tasted great but obviously got trashed!

I am not sure what happened. I did this only one time and it turned out ok. It was with a chocolate cake. I used 2 chocolate cake mixes and one tub of chocolate frosting. As far as I know...the customer was happy. icon_rolleyes.gif
