Good morning!

I'm seeing the really neat witch hat cupcakes and wondered how to make the little hats. Are they solid gumpast/fondant?

I seen cupcakes with a witches hat on the most recent photos and (oops I forgot which CC person did them icon_redface.gif sorry) she stated she used gumpaste for the hats. I think you could adchieve the same affect with fondant though.

I just cut out circles in fondant with a small cookie cutter..Then I came back later and used my largest round tip..I think a #12 and piped the centre and pulled it up to form a peak..Really cute!!

You can use icecream cones that are pointed and cover them with a thin coat of buttercream or piping gel. Then cover them with fondant. I put some disco dust on mine in gold and then used Halloween sprinkles of cut out pumpkins in purple and orange. Super easy and they come out really cute. And if you want you can also add a spider on them!

I just made these for my son and daughters classes at school. I rolled a ball about a half inch and then flattened it and smoothed it in my hand. Then I took a larger ball and rolled it into a ball and then into a cone in between my hands and made the tips crooked and wonky. The kids loved them. I wrapped pink, orange and green 'belts' around the bottoms of the cones after securing the cones to the hat circle.

Sorry I also used all fondant. They dried very well and didn't get mushy. I did let the icing crust up a bit before putting the hats on the cupcakes.

I make my witch hats out of chocolate. I made a 'mold' for the top part of the hat by rolling wax paper into a cone, then poured in the chocolate.

That second link is mine! Glad you like them. icon_smile.gif
I just use MMF (fondant). I cut out circles and then just rolled a ball in my hand and then into a cone (really skinny on one side) and then make it crooked if you like. Cut out small belts and glitter them. Make tiny square buckles and paint with gold highlighter. Attach all the pieces with a little water or piping gel. No need to let dry, that way they are still pleasant to eat.

Happy Halloween!

I made mine out of fondant. My kids love eating fondant so they were thrilled to eat an entire hat icon_smile.gif. I used a 2 1/4" circle cutter for the brim, then just rolled a cone shaped piece of fondant for the top, attached with gum glue and let dry a few hours so the brim wouldn't flop once on the cupcake. It's in my photos, I wish I had taken a better picture though.
