Hi, I am making a Boston Red Sox cake for my friend's 40th birthday this week. The design of the cake is white fondant with buttons in the front, made to look like a baseball jersey and then little gumpaste glove, bat and hat on top. I made the gum paste stuff so far and am happy how they turned out - however having a HORRIBLE time with the words "Red Sox" that will go across the front of the jersey (across the front of an 8" cake) I tried exacto knifing it out of fondant and then using edible marker to out line in blue and it looks horrible. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thank you!

You could cut the letters out of blue just a little larger then put the red on top. icon_lol.gif

They just don't look great cut with the exacto - kind of messy.

You may need a sharper exacto. I have that problem sometimes. The only other thing would be to make a printout, then make a stencil of the letters and stencil it with RI on the cake. You could outline it with RI in the blue.

I had a hard time with my Red Sox logo too. I ended up doing a chocolate transfer. It wasn't perfect but good enough for my daughter's birthday. You can see it in my photos. Good luck!

I just saw Duff's "food spray" at Michael's today..I haven't tried it out but I'm betting that you could make a stencil and spray it onto your fondant. Has anyone used the food spray yet?

Or, you could make a stencil and paint the logo directly onto the fondant with petal dust or luster dust (made into a liquid by adding lemon or almond extract). HTH icon_smile.gif
