I am making gum paste leaves but I cant seem to make them stick to the side of the cake very well.
Im using water, if I use to much it get gooey and starts sliding down.
If I use to little it wont stick.
Anyone use anything besides water?

There are two things that I do:

1) mix a little bit of gumpaste in warm water, just a teeny bit, and it makes a paste. It's easier to use than plain water, and it's got more "substance" to it, so it helps pieces stick better

2) I've also found that candy melts (or probably even chocolate chips) work really really well. Just melt them until they are, well... melted (haha) and use it like glue, with a toothpick. It holds REALLY strong!

Hope that helps!

You need to use an edible glue like Gum Arabic.

You can also mix about a 1/4 tsp of Tylose into about 1/8 C. of water (those are guesstimations), stir well. This is best if it sits overnight though so all of the tylose gets dissolved....but, I have used it right away when I was in a pinch.

As Yummy in my tummy suggested, I always dissolve a little chunk of gumpaste in water. You only need a tiny bit, and it sticks very well.

I use Wilton cookie icing that comes in a glue-like bottle. I think it's royal icing since it dries hard. I call it my "cake glue" and I always have it on hand. I just use a little and hold the leaf or whatever on the cake for a few seconds so it doesn't slip down. Holds really well.

My favorite is Wilton's Gum Paste mix. I make is so it's slightly thicker than absolutely fresh real egg whites. That means thick. Then usually a very extremely little dab will do you. If you make it too thick, it can be thinned.

It's the only reason for WGP, in my house.
