I normally package my cookies in a cello bag with a white satin ribbon in a brown box with color coordinating tissue paper. For a $15 cookie should I do something special? Will people expect them to be packaged differently than a basic cello baggie? Should they be individually packaged? I need some ideas on how to package more expensive cookies.

I know that I would have to really be impressed with the package to try a $15 cookie. It would definitely have to be more than a cello bag.

Can you post a pic of a $15 cookie? Just curious! (Maybe that will also help to figure out some special looking packaging, becauase it should be in something more expensive looking.)

I am guessing this is for a HUGE cookie? Please give more details?

No...Dreme's cookies are Out of this world Sick...and I mean that in a good way...We have all been trying to get her to charge more for them!!!So I am glad to see she is getting that much....as for packaging..Hmm...not sure!!

Aww thank you kiddiekakes! you made my day! I'm still new to figuring out how to price some of the 3d designs as I'm not sure how difficult it will be until I do one. The $15 cookies in question are masquerade mask. I'm about to do a photoshoot for them and some other seasonal items (I know i'm late, been very busy with cake orders). Hopefully after editing they will be up on the site tonight.

They are 6"-7" x 2"- 5" in length. Each one varies due the style of the mask.

Well I am in awe of your creativeness..I have done lots of cookies but just don't have the patience for some of the designs you created..Don't even like the RI piping...Your cookies are nothing like I have ever seen before....Love them!!

I think if you want to showcase your cookies, especially for something like the masquerade mask, you don't want so much packaging on the cookie that your work gets lost. I think using the clear cello bags, with corresponding colored ribbons, and perhaps put the cookie up against a colored FDA approved cardboard would make it look lovely. If anything, maybe the box that the cookie arrives in (assuming it's just an individual cookie) could be a fancier box and fill the box with colored tissue that matches the mask.

Really elegant clear boxes, like the lid is clear, the bottom is clear.....everything.

If the cookie is $15. that means it is worth that, as soon as you get something other than a cello bag it is going to eat into your profit. I understand you want this cookie to be showcased better but at the same time you need to consider the costs? The smallest boxes here cost $0.85 + tax & it requires a longer ribbon I charge extra for boxes.

what about something like this?? Would give a nice presentation, it's something they can keep and repurpose, and it doesn't cost THAT much to you for your bottom line! Not sure they're "elegant" enough for YOUR cookies though!

Buttttt, if you are at all concerned about price...would consider making an insert for your cello bag? For example...there are many sites that give a formula on how to cut and score a piece of cardstock. You make 4 snips, pre-fold a bit...then a dab of hot glue or I think some use two way tap to secure the sides up. Poof...you have the bottom part of a box & you can custom size it to your cookie. Know what I mean? Sort of like the inside of a "slide" style box. Or, the bottom of a stationary box with out the acrylic top.

They make beautiful cardstock in metallic silver and gold. Of course, white is available. If it's a masq. mask you could use what ever metallic finish you're using on the cookie & match the bow. It might be the compromise between price and looks.

If you're super busy you may not dig this option though. It doesn't take all day...but once you figure out the measurements, it's a snap.

I think a clear flat box with coloured tissue under it. love your work.

Ev Marie, that was just what I was about to suggest. The paper topper for the cello bag, right? A pretty piece of nice paper, scalloped; you can make holes with a paper puncher and thread the ribbon through it, depending on the occasion.

There's someone who's making these pretty, whimsical boxes for cupcakes with a clear top, too.

imaginethatnj - I forgot about the paper topper idea...that's a good one. Threading the ribbon through too will give the cookie just a bit of sass. Something just a little more special because it's a high end cookie.

I was really thinking about a box. Just the bottom really. They have these templates online that help. You just google, make your own favor box. Or something similar. Here's a link I used for my favor boxes I have on my site.... (i hope it works)

It's just the bottom. So, you can place cookie in custom cardstock box, then slide into cello bag. There are some serious scrapbooking projects for fancy boxes....but she'd have to charge an extra $5!! for all the time put in the box.

EvMarie, I think I understand what you are saying. Kinda a compromise between the bag & the box. You use the bottom of the box as the base/holder for the cookie & still get the clear see though of the bag with the decoration of a bow or such.

A pretty box is always worth the effort. I go more for this kind of handmade box than for a plastic clear box. Packaging using pretty colors and papers adds so much more...

Nothing more is required. The cost for the cookie is WITH THE COOKIE not the packaging. If you upgrade the packaging for that cookie, it seems to downgrade the work that goes into all the other cookies you do...they should all be packaged equally special. The price difference being the size of the cookie or the difficulty of the cookie. If they wish for the packaging to be upgraded....I would charge extra for it.

I love the idea of the clear box and the one khalstead mentioned. I tried to find something other than a pattern, more so in a solid color, and found some ivory and chocolate ones at jam paper and envelope. Nice site.

After thinking about it, I think for now I will take the advice of Montrealconfections and all4cake. I will offer extra packaging only if the client wants it, for an additional fee that is.

I finally got time to get the cookies up. Still working on getting up seasonal stuff.
