I wanted to make some Lego bricks out of MMF and was wondering what is the best way to get sharp corners on them?
Also how far in advance can I make them? I wanted to make different colored legos and keep them to put around the cake etc?
The lego store has a lego shaped silicone ice cube tray. Or at least they use to. I haven't played with molds much so I don't know if that would work, but sounds like a quick and easy possibility.
When I needed to make a perfect edge with gumpaste I shape a square or log larger than I need it to be. Then let it dry for several minutes (5-10) and use a knife to slowly slice through it. This will give sharp edges. You can get rid of the knife marks by slowly and gently rubbing each edge against your table or counter. I don't have much experience with MMF but you could try letting it dry longer to see if it gives you the same effect. Or do a 50/50 mix of MMF and gumpaste. You can make these well in advance as long as you keep them dry. Use a cardboard box lined with wax paper or parchment paper. The longer if advance you make them the more solid they will be. So if you think people are going to eat them and you don't want them cracking teeth I wouldn't make them weeks in advance!
