Hey All,

New to the forums here and just wanted to say "Hello!". I'm a self taught cake decorator. Learned through a combination of trial and error, and a couple of Wilton Classes at the local Michael's!

I've attached a picture of my most recent creation - a Birthday Cake for my daughter, who turned one year old this weekend!!

Welcome PickeringCakeMom!

I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. There is a great wealth of information about caking on this website.

The cake you made for your daughter turned out very cute!

Take care,

P.S. Many of the folks here are very helpful, all you need to do is e-mail them and they will help!

I am fairly new myself and really love the CC site. I am also self-taught and have never taken a class, but have learned (and continue to learn) a wealth of information from this site. There are so many knowledgeable and talented people on here!! Fair warning though... this site is addicting! I find myself checking out the photos and forum waaaay too often! LOL. Enjoy!

hello and welcome!! I am relatively new here myself, but as you hAve been warned- this site is very addicitive-- i have never seen such an honest little logo on a homepage icon_razz.gif) anyway a good place to start out is here http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-2926-abbreviations.html so that if you come across any abbreviations you don't yet know, you will be able to make more sense of the post. Additionally, a good tip to know is that abbreviations like WASC which you will see alllllllllllllll the time, you can scroll your mouse over the word and if it is a registerd abbreviation, the explanation will pop up in a little yellow bubble!

One sad truth is that some people can get a bit narky at times, and the forums turn from a learning place to a full scale attack on the OP or any opinions posted after that. This is yet to happen to me personally but i have already come across it more than i should have!

My advice is to just tread very carefully and always phrase things in the nicest possible way to best meet your needs. There are already so many threads on just about everything, but i still haven't figured out how to locate them through the searches, so simply asking for someboday else who may have come across the thread to direct you is the best way to go about it.

As a general rule we are all on here together to learn from each other, inspire and share our ideas and experiences! I hope you have a great time being part of the CC community, I am loving it!!!

Quite frankly, Heath and I are disgusted with the behavior of a handful of members and we are putting an end to it.

Consider this message fair notice to everyone. The leniency is over. We are going to start banning any member we feel is starting problems, provoking others, making snide remarks, or insulting other members.

I don't care if we have to ban 1000 users if that is what it takes to get this community back to focusing on cakes instead of inter-personal drama.

We are all supposed to be here to talk politely about cake, support each other, and lend a helping hand.

If you don't agree with someone, by all means.... disagree, but do it respectfully.

If someone asks for your constructive criticism, then give it... constructively.

If you find yourself unable to write a post, PM, or response in a constructive, encouraging or supportive way then you need to walk away.

Remember, this community is based on values of caring, and generosity of spirit.

Focus on what you share in common, learn from what makes you different, support each other through struggles, and celebrate each others' success.

There's a little button at the end of every post which reads: report as a bad post. Use it as needed to alert the moderators of posts which are inappropriate.

First welcome!!!!! Second, don't be put off by the possibility of encountering any of the "inappropriate" postings. As with anything in life...gotta take a tiny bit of the bad with the good.

Just remember what YOU are here for & it'll be fun. I started my journey over a year a go. I left my corporate job, ended up taking care of an ill family member who has just now passed on....and in the mean time ran to cake central for my education in cake decorating and of course cookie techniques. I have learned so much over the past year. I learned that cakes are fun....but not likely a part of how I make a living. I have been focusing on cookies more. Specialty, like always & of course cut outs. Which are a big part of this site as well.

So - I'm moving along quite nicely. With the help of all the generous cake/cookie people who participate in these forums. Whether you're doing this for a hobby or a business, you'll find yourself referencing cake central quite a bit. The good far out weighs the bad.

No worries! Welcome! And, just have fun....isn't it the best thing to "have"?????
