My pillars are too tall, what do you cut them with? I thought I had it measured corrct, but im realizing not. his cake is due at 9:00 tomorrow morning, im beyond tired right now and dont know if I even have the right tool to cut these things!! Can I just leave the gap and fill with my border? or will it not hold too well. I need to travel 1 hour with it fully assembled in the front of my car icon_sad.gif

I have the SPS system. The plastic is not as "hard" as it seems. I had a similar problem and took them to my brother to use a band saw on. He botched it horribly! He said that they cut too easily. I had to cut a few that he messed up on. I used a cheap steak knife. You know, the serrated edged ones? Yeah, well, I just marked the line and sawed away for awhile until I could just snap it off. It's probably dangerous, but I was desperate like you. The trick is not to try to saw all the way through. At some point, it just snaps off. Please don't cut off a finger or thumb. I'd feel bad. Good luck to you.

I have not used SPS; is it possible that they can be cut with the type of cutters used to cut PVC pipe?

I can't think of the name of this tool, but I got it from Home Depot. It's used to cut PVC pipe and not very exspensive. It works great for me. I measure the first one by placing it into the cake and then cut to measure. The rest are each cut to the first pillar. I found it more accurate if I put the first one cut to the left of each new one to be cut in my left hand as I cut each one. I hope this makes sense. Once you get the hang of it, it works smoothly. it is only about 1/4 inch too tall. we tried the PVC pipe thing and it shattered the column...

A thick border might do the trick if it's 1/4 inch. My brother's wedding cake had a small gap and I just put a border around it. If the cake board is secured by that nubby being in the hole, it should be ok. But, if leah_s replies, listen to whatever she has to say, she's the SPS master - not I.

Do not leave the pillars too tall, your cake will not be sturdy during transport. Trust me on this one, I use them ALL the time. They are very easy to cut. Select a mark a little lower than your cake, saw just a bit with a hand saw or a serated knife, and then just break at the mark. Very quick and easy.

Oh a 1/4" difference is nothing. I probably wouldn't even notice that. Just use it as is and pipe the border a wee bit larger. Instead of aiming the tip and border down, aim it right at the gap so that you're piping sort of on the side of the cake. And run a flat "sealing" lne first with the flat side of the basketweave tip or a 104, wide side down.

Not one I am very proud of, but itis what it is. However.... The cake didnt move one bit upon transfer. It is truly the way to go!! AND since this mishap, My husband and I agree it is finally time to break down and buy the Agbay WOOO HOOO!!... I am going to order it Monday. I am so excited!! I have been wanting one for a long time! Again thank you all! icon_lol.gif
