I had a cupcake order for a bridal shower due today. I was told the colors are brown and red with silver accents. I asked if they had fabric to match the frosting to. Nope...just do half with red and half with chocolate.

So.....I just delivered them. I walked into the hall and saw a room beautifully decorated in brown.....and burgundy! icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif The host was fine with it and made some joke about "red, burgundy...it's all the same." icon_rolleyes.gif

Uh....I'm glad you're OK with it, but do you know how long I babied that frosting to get it that beautiful, deep red?? And there was a LOT of it to color, too!! Do you know how much easier...and faster...and cheaper...it would have been to color it burgundy instead of that gorgeous red that clashes with everything in the room?? icon_cry.gif

Oh I am so sorry this has happened to you...

I feel a similar disaster brewing for me as I am doing a large cake for my MIL, she says she wants it yellow. I asked for a color sample so I dont get the wrong yellow, she tell me, Oh Just this bright yellow, like on the top of the Wilton lemon yellow..

I am just waiting to deliver this 4 tier and it be the wrong yellow.

Op--they said red, were happy with red so that should have been a relief that no one came unglued over the color. I do understand what it takes to get red...but some people just simply don't get excited about the same things we do.. hard to figure.. huh?? icon_rolleyes.gif

MessMaker--if she has specifically said like the color on the Wilton top, I can't see how you can go wrong!

It is a bummer that your cake didn't match beautifully with everything in the room... but they were probably 1. not phased or 2. embarassed that they are color blind and didn't know to tell you. Hugs...but if they are happy you should be happy.

Oh, I wasn't stressed about the colors not matching.....other than the fact that I'm not at the shower to let potential customers know I CAN actually match their frosting colors to their event colors!! icon_rolleyes.gif It was just a little frustrating that I spent so much time getting the red just right, only to find out it a) didn't match the party colors, and b) it didn't really matter to the host. I probably could have spent 2 minutes making pink instead of a day developing red and she would have been just as happy. icon_rolleyes.gif I'm not really complaining...it turned out fine. I just hate making red, and then to make red when I didn't have to.....I just needed to vent.
