Where does everyone get their cake boards? I am talking about the sturdy, thick ones, probably 3/4 - 1" thick that you would use as a base. I live in a rather small town and the only thing available is the flimsy little cardboard ones that you would use under each layer. In the past, I have had to hot glue several together to try to make a thick base. Any info on the best type/place to purchase online would be great!

That is what I do, too, for round ones - it's less expensive than buying pre-made cake drums.

For sheet cakes I use 1/2 in foamcore board.

My dh just sawed up a bunch of different size pieces of plywood for me. I wrap those in coordinating paper and cover with food save plastic wrap or just wrap it in freezer paper with the shiny side up sometimes. And sometimes I cover it with fondant and decorate it right along with the cake.

You can find cake drums at lots of places online... they're available in white, silver, and gold. Your local Wal-Mart might even stock a few sizes, but they usually only carry the silver ones.
